Decisions and Choices

Alex/Gene drabble. Before it had been about getting back to Molly; to 2008 but now it was a choice between two people she loved. Oneshot. Galex.

Alex awakes, a dull pounding in her temples reminds her that, ironically, she isn't as young as she used to be and that she should cut back on her red wine intake. She knows that this headache is going to be a bitch to shake, and no doubt Gene will have something to shout about today. She finally opens her eyes, but wishes she hadn't. The harsh glare of the sun low in the sky enters her bedroom uninvited through the curtains she forgot to close before she fell asleep.

It is only then that Alex realises she is not alone in her bed. She must have drank more wine than she remembers because she knows she should have noticed before now. She barely trusts herself to turn over to see who's occupying the other half of her double bed. Part of her doesn't want to look because she knows who she's going to find but she's not ready for that encounter yet. Besides, he's still asleep, at least as far as she can tell, and there's no point in awakening him before he's ready.

Alex breathes in deeply, and holds onto it as she pulls the sheets away from her body. She's about to make her escape from the bed when an arm reaches out and pulls her back. She looks around at him, but he's still asleep and it was simply an unconscious, or perhaps subconscious, movement.

Alex sighs, this situation becoming more complicated as it unfolds. As much as she likes and respects the people she has come to know here, her primary goal is always getting back home to her time and to her daughter. She had not wanted anything to divert her from this, but everywhere she looks Gene is there presenting other options to her that she doesn't even want to consider.

Again, she tries to slip out of the bed but Gene's warm arm around her waist, the skin to skin contact is more than she is willing to sacrifice. She knows she will do anything to get back to Molly but for now she can't fight the bliss that comes from falling back to sleep in Gene's arms.
