Opposition was his greatest strength. More so, what he lived for, what he lived on. It was the school's debate team versus him all over again.
Only the school's debate him versus him was a perfect representation of his life as a whole. To make people huff and cry under the might of being wrong, or simply under the might that Eric Cartman was right.
Sometimes he didn't even have to know his cause, he fought dirty. He fought until he won or until he felt that bitter taste of defeat and ran away.
But Kyle never let him really leave. Would stay in his mind even after the final rebuttal of walking away. Would force the formally bland argument into one of passion. Into making Cartman care about the cause of which Kyle was for and say as much shit about as he could. Come up with evidence to prove his points until it had truly become a labour of intense mental training. You could say Kyle is what made him less impetuous and more manipulative. Had forced him into becoming a better thinker - a true mastermind.
Because Kyle had fought back, had annoyed and irritated him until his mind ached from the vehemence of his frustration. The frustration that turned into hatred.
And as hatred does, it turned into obsession. Kyle with his quick wit who had deprived Cartman of the pleasure of leaving an argument behind.
Had driven him into the insanity of being a dictator. Because of Kyle Broflovski, Eric Cartman had the mind of a dictator.
And even through the blinding hatred, when it came to eradication and subjugation of whoever had most recently pissed him off, Cartman would let Kyle live.
He wanted him to watch as all his moral beliefs crumbled.
Cartman would remember all those childish causes that were waged, and he would make sure that when he had the power to do so he would win.
He'd make the world twist and turn and dance for Kyle's misery.
Because hatred turns to obsession which, if you're not careful, can very well turn into insanity.
