Sirius tipped his chair back and pulled a cigarette from his pocket. He placed it between his red lips and contemplated whether or not to light it. One reason not to, was because he was in detention and Professor McGonagall would freak out if she saw him smoking in a classroom. On the other hand he wanted to smoke it and liked the fact that this habit made his mother dislike him even more than she already did. This argument and his desire won over Sirius and he quickly lit it with his wand.
He leaned his head up to the ceiling and breathed smoke from his nose. He felt a little less nervous about McGonagall finding him now. He breathed in deeply and let the smoke come from his mouth this time. Sirius took the cigarette from his mouth and flicked the ashes from the end of it. He had no idea why McGonagall had left him alone in her classroom. She really should know better than that. But, Sirius decided, she must realize that in the whole school she was the one teacher that he would not mess with.
Sirius sighed and looked at his watch on his well tanned arm. He still had an hour and a half left of this. Sirius' cigarette was nearly out so he grabbed another from his pocket and lit it with the end of his smoldering one. He heard faint footsteps outside the door but didn't think anything of it. He closed his eyes and breathed deep, thoroughly enjoying this cigarette. After a few minutes he felt like someone was standing over him. Grudgingly he opened his other eye to make sure he was actually seeing things correct.
"What the hell are you doing here?" Sirius frowned as smoke poured from his nose.
"Just came to say hello. I also wanted to see how detention is going." Regulus stuck out his prefect badge out so Sirius could see it.
"Detention is going great Reg I get a lot done in these detentions. And I see that your badge hasn't been stolen yet, so that's great." Sirius' voice was heavy with sarcasm. "But you're the perfect one and you always have been so I'm used to it."
"Oh yes chain smoking and day dreaming. You really are very productive." He ignored Sirius' second comment.
"At least I have fun doing the things that land me in here. You never have fun. You never just let yourself leave that bubble that you've made."
"Sirius, I like who I am and I'm proud of my accomplishments. You don't have to drag every one you know down with you." Regulus' words sounded forced.
"I'm not trying to; I'm just saying that you should actually try to laugh once in awhile."
"You think I want to be miserable all the time? Do you think I actually want to be the person mum and dad want me to be? No, I wish I could have fun, but I can't." Regulus sighed. "You let them down and I can't be a letdown too. They've built me into this life. Not me." He turned to go.
"No, do not blame them. You can't. You could have broken out a long time ago, I did, but you didn't therefore it's your fault that you are the way you are."
He paused. "I know. But I wish it was their fault because then I could do something about it." He left Sirius alone to finish his last cigarette.
