It was the first day of kinder garden and Troy was playing with his new friend Chad when saw a little blond girl sitting alone. He didn't know why,but she looked so lonely, so he walked over and sat by her. She looked at him.
"Hi, my name is Troy, whats yours?" The little boy said, holding out a hand to her.
"I'm Shawpay." She said and shook his hand. "Nice to meet you Twoy." He could tell she had problems with her 'r's.
He looked around the playground before turning back to Sharpay.
"Why aren't you playing?"
"Oh, because I don't want to."
"Why not?"
"I just don't like to play." She said.
"Why not? Playing is fun! Everybody else loves to play."
"I know, but I'd rather be special." She smiled at him, one of her front teeth missing.
Troy nodded and went back to play with Chad.
Later that day, it was snack time and everyone in the room had gotten milk and cookies from the teacher.
Troy looked around and saw Sharpay sitting alone at a table chewing on some carrots. He walked over to her and sat next to her.
"Sharpay, why are you eating carrots for snack time?"
"Because I like them." She said and stuck another one into her mouth.
"Why didn't you get milk and cookies from Ms...the teacher?"
"Because I didn't want any."
"Why not? Everyone else got some, why didn't you?"
"Because, Twoy, I'd rather be special." She said and finished her carrots.
It was after nap time and everyone was waking from their naps.
Troy wiped his eyes and stood from his lying position. He looked around and watched as all the girls get up and go immediately over to a play station. Well most of the girls. He watched as Sharpay got up and asked the teacher to comb through her hair.
He walked over to where the two were sitting and sat in front of them.
"Sharpay, why did you ask Ms...the teacher to comb your hair?"
"Because I didn't want my hair to be all weird."
"But all the other girls don't care."
"But I'm not all the other girls, Twoy. I'm special." She rolled her eyes and smiled at him.
It was time to go now, and Troy saw Sharpay packing all her stuff together. He walked over to her.
"Sharpay, how do you know that you're special?"
"Because I'm not like other people, silly. I don't do what others do. Mommy tells me I'm special every night, and that there is nothing wrong with being special."
"Why do you care if you're special?"
"Because I don't like being like other people. I want to be like myself! Theres nothing wrong with being special, Twoy." She said and smiled. She looked toward the door and saw her mother. "Bye Twoy!" She waved as she ran over to her mother.
The next day, Troy walked into the classroom and saw Sharpay sitting on a bench by another blond boy. He had thought about what Sharpay had said, while his mommy was tucking him in, and it all made sense.
He walked over to them and stood in front of her.
"Twoy, this is my bwother, Wyan." She said. "Wyan, this is my new friend, Twoy."
"Hi." The two waved at each other. Troy then turned back to Sharpay. He sat beside her and grabbed her hand and kissed her cheek.
"Twoy, what are you doing?" She asked, shocked.
"Holding your hand."
"Why?"
"Because I want to."
"But most boys don't like holding girl's hands. They say we're icky and have cooties."
"I know."
"So why are you holding my hand?"
"Because I want to."
"But the other boys will think you're weird."
"I don't care."
"Why? Most boys would care."
"I'm not like most boys, silly. I'm special." He smiled.
"I'm special, too!" She smiled back.
"And theres nothing wrong with being special." He smiled and squeezed her hand.
I hope you liked this one-shot. It just came to me.
