Summary: Sick and tired of being in the shadows, Hermione dares herself to make a scene.
"Oh, Blaise!"
Hermione stabbed the sunny-side-up egg with her fork. Stupid, stupid bint. Didn't the girl plainly see that she was throwing herself at him? Growling, actually growling, Hermione turned to Ronald and snapped, "We're going to the pitch. Grab your stuff."
Ron stared at her in disbelief. "But, 'Mione!" he whined. "I haven't finished my bacon and –"
Hauling him up by the collar, Hermione stalked away, a choking Ronald trailing after her. "Are you aware that your girlfriend's hand is down my boyfriend's trousers?" she hissed, finally reaching outside and pushing the redhead away. "Seven days, Ron! Seven whole days of seeing them snogging around like a pair of wild rabbits!"
Ron rolled his eyes. "It's not that big a deal, 'Mione."
Hermione stared at him. "Not that – not that big a deal?!" She stepped forward and pressed him up against the wall, anger taking over her usually calm form. "They've been seen on top of each other by the lake, you dunce."
Ron's eyes widened. "What?!" he roared.
Pulling away slightly, Hermione took a deep breath. She had been seeing Blaise Zabini for over three months now and she simply couldn't stand the sight of him flirting with Parkinson. Yes, of course, it was an act that they've flawlessly perfected, but it irritated her to no end. It was as if the tart loved seeing Hermione enraged. Fisting her hands, she muttered, "This won't do."
She couldn't believe this – couldn't believe the way she was acting. And it was all because of a boy – some idiotic boy who decided that he couldn't stand being seen with her in public and substituted Parkinson instead. It had been fun, yes, but had it been worth it? Was being with him worth seeing him with someone else?
"I've got to go," she mumbled, trekking back into the Great Hall.
Ronald speedily followed behind her. "It's not what you think, Hermione. You've got to stop thinking so much. They're not together."
She spun around. "So it doesn't hurt you, does it? Doesn't hurt seeing her kissing someone else? Laughing with someone else? Flaunting her love for someone else?"
Ron paled. "Stop it," he said softly.
"Because it hurts me, Ron," she stated, pained. "It hurts to see that I'm not good enough to be on his arm. Ron, don't you understand? We're not even good enough to be their conquests, let alone their significant others."
"Well, then, what – what do you think we should do?" he inquired, at a loss.
Urged on by a feeling she could only categorize as exhilaration, Hermione grabbed him by the hand, pulled him into the Great Hall and whispered, "We're going to do this."
She quickly pressed her lips against his and grinned when she heard the shocked gasps of the students around them. She nudged harder, secretly signaling for him to respond. He was too stunned to even move, so she took initiative and wrapped her arms around his neck.
Pulling away, she inhaled deeply and smiled. "I wonder what they'll think."
"Christ, Hermione," Ron said loudly, "was that your tongue?!"
