"So…?" He looked down at me, thinking pensively.
"Yes, Jacob?" I asked laughing. All night he had been throwing questions at me about anything and everything. He said he wanted to know more, like he didn't already know me better than I knew myself.
We continued walking down the beach, hand in hand. The quiet waves lapped at the grainy sand making soothing noises. It was still dark outside, almost daybreak. I should have been asleep, but Jake had kidnapped me, with Dad's consent of course, and by now hours had passed.
"Alright, I've got another one. Which do you prefer? Cats or dogs?" Jake demanded.
I almost stopped walking at his question. I looked up and quickly regretted it; he was staring straight at me with a questioning look.
"We should get going, the sun is almost rising," I offered, avoiding the question.
"Ness? Is everything alright?" God damn it, he was worried.
"Yep, everything is fine… I just want to get back. I do get tried, you know, unlike my family and your inhumanly freakishness." I teased him. Please, please do not ask that question again.
"Okay," he sighed, "but first you didn't answer my question." He turned facing me, and smiled. Oh, God no.
"Umm, Jake I…." I said blushing nervously. "We really do need to get going." I blurted out, not knowing what else to say. I made a grab for his hand and pulled hard, but, of course, he did not budge.
"Whoa, Ness. Come on, what is wrong?" Jake looked so concerned, it would break my heart to not tell him the truth.
"I like cats." I mumbled.
"What was that, Sweetheart?" he questioned anxiously.
"I prefer cats, Jake." I sighed, looking up to judge his reaction.
"Oh…" All emotion was gone. "Why?"
"Because dogs are dirty, slobber all over your face, and smell." I stated, trying not to look up.
"Lets get you home. Turn around so I can change." I turned on my heel as fast as I could, no longer wanting to see his disappointed, distant face.
After a moment I heard a soft call, "Mmkay, Ness. You can look, now."
I spun towards the sound, but Jake wasn't there. Looking all around, he was still nowhere in sight. "Jake?!" I whispered in a panic.
Then, I looked down.
There at my feet, was a long russet brown cat. I kneeled down to get a better look. "What the hell?! Jacob?" I was almost in hysterics looking at the cat.
Then, I heard muffled husky laugh.
I twisted around, and there he stood. "God damn it, Jacob Black!" I screeched. I was so ready to smack him over the head. One look at my face and he quieted.
"Shhh, calm down." He pulled me to himself tightly. We stood there a moment, while he leaned down and put his face in my hair." I love you," he murmured, kissing my forehead.
I sighed, "I love you, too."
AN: Teehee, that was fun. And, I have a headache... So, if you leave a reveiw, maybe it will go away? :D
