Foundling

He ran the back of his fingers against her cheek, then slid them into her hair.

"I hope you don't mind," InuYasha said, sliding his arm around his wife's waist. "I couldn't just leave him there. His mother had been killed, and I knew the local villagers would have chased him away."

Kagome watched Atae and the newcomer playing chase in the area in front of their house. Her son's laughter rang out as they dodged around each other. "Stay out of the garden!" she yelled at them.

"All right, Mama!" Atae yelled back, and ran off in the other direction, his newfound friend following close behind.

She turned back and looked at her husband with a soft smile on her face. "What made you think I'd be angry?" she asked.

"Oh, another mouth to feed." He pulled her close. "Someone else to chase after." He tilted up her chin. "More puppy ears to be tempted with." His lips lightly kissed hers, moving lightly across her warm and inviting mouth.

Atae ran up to them and they broke the kiss. "He says his name is Yoshio. Can he stay?" Atae petted the puppy in his arms, white, with one dark paw. Yoshio licked him on the chin.

Kagome looked at InuYasha, and her son, and the puppy. "Three sets of puppy eyes working on me at once isn't fair!" she said. "But yes, he can stay."

"Yay!" said the boy. "I'm gonna go show Auntie Rin!"

"I wonder what Sesshoumaru will say?" Kagome wondered.

"Probably something like this," InuYasha said. And he growled.
