Disclaimer: Don't own Pokemon or the Dialogue...Drabble. Crackish. Maybe.
Dawn stood at Barry's side, shifting nervously. THE Professor Rowan was talking to them about not venturing into the tall grass without Pokemon. How embarrassed she felt. When Rowan asked the pair if they loved Pokemon Dawn responded with an ecstatic, 'YES!' She agreed with Barry when he told Rowan that no matter how many times he asked them, their answer would never change. When Rowan expressed his concern about them being reckless with their Pokemon, Barry spoke up.
"...Uh...Well, I uh..." Even Barry, who was usually so, erm, articulate was at a loss for words.
"...Well, then forget about me, but give a Pokemon to my friend here! I mean, it was me who tried to go into the tall grass and all..."
Wait, what? Dawn's head snapped over to look at Barry, who was staring at the ground, shifting the dirt beneath his foot. Dawn then felt a fuzzy feeling inside, all these years, Barry actually cared for her!
"How big of you," praised Rowan. "Very well then! I will entrust you two with Pokemon! I apologize for putting you through this exercise. However! You must promise me that you will never recklessly endanger yourselves again. Now then... Hm? Now where...?" Then a boy about the pair's age came running up behind the Professor, carrying a very large brown suitcase.
"Professor Rowan," the boy panted. "You left your briefcase at the lake!" Rowan turned around to look at the boy.
"Oh? Is something wrong here? Ah! There it is! Lucas, nice work," Rowan said, a scowl still on his face. "What I was about to do was entrust these two with their own Pokemon."
"Pardon?!" Lucas seemed just a little shocked. "Those Pokemon are hard to replace. Are you sure abotu giving them away?"
Eventually, the dialogue between the Professor and his assistan subsided. Rowan then allowed the pair to choose their Pokemon. By this time, the warm feeling in Dawn's heart was growing, overcome by the fact that Barry may actually care for her. She looked to him to see who would choose their Pokemon first.
"Hey, Dawn. You choose first," grinned Barry, "Hey, I'm practically a grown-up. I have to show some class here."
And that warm feeling in Dawn's heart died.
Rin: I know, I know.
