Dentist

By: Katie Todd

"I thought that hypnotist cured you of this…phobia" Gibbs stated more than asked.

Kate shuttered slightly and rolled her shoulders back, "so did I" she answered.

Gibbs laughed slightly and wrapped an arm around her shoulders.

"Miss Todd," the blonde receptionist called. She smiled when the brunette pulled the silver haired man up with her.

Everyone on staff knew that the slender NCIS agent was petrified of the dentist. She had done well with her last root canal but this time she seemed to be petrified again.

"Right this way" the blonde lead them back to the tiny cubicle. She went to stop the man from coming with them, but when she looked up at him and caught his glare, she thought better of it. "Doctor Atkinson will be right with you."

The receptionist bobbed away as Gibbs pulled a chair up beside the chair Kate was reclined in. The marine took the brunettes thin hand and rubbed his thumb in soothing circles on the back of it.

"Why is this so scary Katie?" he gruffed as he moved to wipe his hand over her forehead.

She looked up at him with wide eyes and measured his gaze for a minute before answering.

"I don't like not having control of what's going on" she said simply.

The brunette had the pleasure of hearing Gibbs chuckle once at the irony.

"Good afternoon Mrs. Todd" the dentist said as he walked in.

Kate's eyes flashed up to Gibbs's face, he tightened his hand around hers in response. She answered the dentist with a shaking voice; Gibbs leaned down close the side of her face and whispered in her ear.

"I'm here you're going to be fine" Gibbs soothed.

She gave him a shaky smile as the dentist started his work.
