"Do you sleep with a gun under your pillow every night?" Tony questioned as we walked into the bull pen.
"It depends." I answered simply.
"On what?" Tony raised his brows.
"On who I'm sleeping with" I turned and ran straight into my husband's chest.
I instantly fought red from painting my cheeks as I mentally tried to figure a way out of this sticky situation.
"Oh uhh, I didn't mean that the way it sounded." I apologized. I didn't want him to even imagine me being unfaithful, so many others had hurt him in the past that way, "Tony just asked me what I would do if a man came into my bedroom and I said it depends." I calculated his expression and found to my slight annoyance and relief that he was having fun. "I mean it doesn't depend on the man... Tony could you help me out here please?" I amended and reverted back to the Italian behind me for help.
"She sleeps with a gun boss." only I seemed to catch the slight raise in his eyebrows that revealed he knew this was false. I had before we got married of course. But he found it soon afterwards, stuck under my pillow just by force of habit and had explained amongst kisses that he would keep me safe now.
"That true?" my husband quirked, I stumbled to find a response and wondered what this looked like to an outsider, like Tony, who didn't know that we're married and who probably wasn't catching our hidden almost telepathic conversation.
"sorta...sometimes...yes" by which I meant ' I used to, only when you're gone, and no'
"Good girl" I caught the condescending humor in his response, and I would've been mad if I hadn't also caught the words in his gaze. The ones that said he'd make it up to me in the car.
