Konan looked outside. The windows in the hideout had no glass, so when it rained like today, she was extra cautious around them. But today, she was especially sad, and the world around her seemed to be flouting apart. With most of the Akatsuki dead, capturing the Jinchuriki was near impossible. Pein had also been more depressed lately, and that worried Konan deeply.

"Being made of paper has so many disadvantages…" she looked out the window. "We can't go out in the rain, and if a loved one was burning to death…" Konan shivered. How could she even think about that? "I hate myself…" she took off her cloak and tossed it on her bed. "If Pein was in a situation like that, I don't know what I would do…" her attention went to the window, and rain was creating a piddle around it. Outside, the once dry and cracked dirt had been turned into mud. Konan remembered when she was younger; being able to slash in the puddles and play in the rain.

"I'm completely worthless…"she looked at one of her cranes that had fallen into the puddle. It had diminished in the water; becoming nothing but pulp. She grabbed a towel and scooped up the remains, throwing it in the trash. "Once wet, we rip and tear apart, more so simpler than before. We become nothing but mush." Konan took a step closer to the window. Lifelong friend or not, Pein didn't need a worthless person around. When she stuck her finger out of the window, the rain soaked it and she moaned. The appendage popped out of its socket and she took her hand back. Her finger now dangled uselessly from its joint. Sitting on her bed, she kicked off her shoes. 'Would Pein miss me if I died…?' she took out the paper flower in her hair and set it down next to her cloak. Then she took out a piece of paper and a pen. She wrote:

Dear Pein,

I find myself useless to Akatsuki and you. So, in this rain, I plan to end my life. Please don't try to save me… I love you…

~ Konan

So she left the note, and - letting her hair down- Konan bravely stepped outside the building. The rain came down upon her, and she felt her feet soak up water, and she fell to her knees. Konan raised her face to the sky, and felt the water on her face. Then when she looked at the door, Madara was there. She stared in shock as her removed his mask. He solemnly nodded and turned around and let her fall to the puddle of mush her body was becoming. Her colour started to fade, the blues, white, red and black dyed the water around her, and as her last moment came near, Pein appeared in the doorway. A tear streamed down his face and he nodded.

"See you in hell." He said before she could cry.

Konan laughed and replied. "You too."

And when Konan was buried, her epitaph read:

"Best Friend,

Second in command,

One of three survivors.

Live strong,

Die proud,

Akatsuki."
