A/N: This is just a little experiment. I'm testing the waters for a short story I want to write, so let me know if you like this and I'll gladly keep going.

I can't help it. Turn Back the Pendulum era stuff makes me indescribably interested in Kensei x Kuna.

Kuna Mashiro stepped into her captain's office with a shy grin playing on her lips. The silver haired man wore a serious expression, which was not the slightest bit atypical for ninth division captain. He was seated upright in his chair, flipping through stacks of paper.

"Taciho, good morning!" she smiled. The slender green-haired lieutenant put a hand on her hip and held out a tray. "I brought us some jasmine tea because you seem super irritated this morning."

Kensei Muguruma's scowl deepened as she placed a teacup before him, hand withdrawing back into the recesses of her elongated sleeves.

"You forgot what I sent you to do again," he growled.

Pouting her large, pink lips cutely, Kuna nodded.

"Go to the fifth division and pick up the paperwork from Hirako. And don't stay to chat, either, I need to fill it out and return it to Yamamoto," sighed Kensei, glaring at his lieutenant.

"Oh, of course! I remember now, that's easy," chirped Kuna. She twirled in a circle, long robes fluttering, and chopped an arm through the air. "So what time are we training this afternoon?"

Kensei raised an eyebrow. She was just too damn excited too damn early in the morning.

"Not until after all of this is done. So get to it."

"First let's drink our tea before it gets cold," replied Kuna, drawing up a chair and taking a seat across from Kensei. Her small hands encompassed the floral printed teacup and she took long sips. "I put a lot of sugar and honey in mine 'cause I'm sweet and some lemon in yours because you're bitter," she added proudly.

"You know I hate tea! Now get off your ass and get to the fifth division, we have work to do," scolded Kensei.

Kuna pouted and continued to drink her tea. "What's five minutes really gonna hurt?"

"NOW," barked Kensei. His vice-captains perpetually flippant attitude never failed to get on his nerves.

"Okay, grumpy bear. I'll go now," replied Kuna with a smirk. She set down her teacup and sashayed out of the room, waving a sleeved hand in the air as she departed. Her captain made a conscious effort to avert his gaze from the way her willowy body moved with the effortless grace that contrasted her ditzy attitude.

Kensei rubbed his temples for a moment before letting his gaze settle upon the tea that Kuna had brought. Her cup was drained so that the dregs at the bottom were visible, but the surface of his still emitted whisps of steam.

The door to his office slid open a crack, leaving enough room for wavy green hair, circle shaped goggles, and a pair of wide amber eyes to be visible.

"Ey, taicho, whose office am I visiting again?" she asked.

Just as Kensei took a deep breath, she erupted in giggles and scampered away.

"Off to see Hirako-kun to get important papers for taicho!" called Kuna over her shoulder in a singsong voice.

Still frowning, albeit a little less, Kensei looked at the tea tray again. Waiting a few moments until he could be sure that his lieutenant was really gone, he tentatively lifted the cup to his mouth.

Kensei licked his lips after taking a long sip. His facial expression was impassive.

Picking up his reed and dipping it in ink, he focused his attention back to the paperwork before him, taking slow sips as he worked.
