"Dean….." he gasped out as he sank to his knees…
Dean heard his name and he chanced a shift of his eyes just enough to see a figure dropping to their knees behind him, a dark red Rorschach-like shape spreading from the welling wound in his chest…he tumbled forward and was still…Dean's eyes went wide..
He flicked his flaming green eyes back to the direction of his opponent…he kicked the vampire's instep, causing it to lose a certain amount of balance, giving him just enough of a momentary advantage for him to swing the machete in his direction…it whistled through the night air, the speed of the plunging blade catching the vampire unaware…his face still bore the look of abject shock long after it had tumbled to the ground…the body hit moments later, landing wetly in the general vicinity of it's missing head…
Sam was dealing with his own opponent a short distance away…He had the gun prizened away from the other vampire and he raised the curving blade of the hand scythe and brought it down with force upon the back of the vampire's neck, slicing through the supple flesh with malevolent ease. The head rolled slightly away from the body's final resting place just by the sheer force of the blow. He turned to look at Dean and saw Dean kneeling next to a familiar form…'Oh no…..God no!!!!…..' his mind screamed…
He knew the vampire had gotten a shot off, but he had been so focused on wrenching it out of it's grasp that he hadn't seen the consequences of the act…He stumbled forward, his knees crying out their protest as he dropped to the ground beside his brother…
"Bobby…Bobby hang on!! We are getting you to a hospital…just hang on…" Dean cried out, as he lifted the elder hunter from the ground. Blood bubbled up from his throat and capsized over his lips into the bristly growth surrounding them...he was consumed by wet, racking coughs…more blood tumbled over his lips and his body shook under the onslaught of heaving coughs…his eyes began to flutter as he drifted back and forth between the dark hollow of unconsciousness and the glimmering, distantly heard words of Dean as he tried to coax the man that was a father to him in every way that counted away from Death's icy grip…
