Title: A Red Thread
Summary: I suppose we can resort to symbolism.

Watching all those people scuttle about, staring up at the sky, seeing a child's balloon float away into neverending space. Henry was never good with humans. He enjoyed observing them more, as though he was a birdwatcher, quiet and gentle with the frail, soft-bodied species. Yet he was clearly aware that he was just the same as them, mortal and bent to the will of a divine being.
Henry always thought humans would be alone forever, that love was a superficial emotion that was based solely on looks and sex. He didn't want that. As far as he knew, he didn't need either.
But he was wrong. Humans needed each other; they were part of this ecosystem. Was love part of that ecosystem? Perhaps.
And he needed him. Forget the looks (although Walter was handsome) and the sex (that was good too), Henry found those things and so much more in the form of a long-haired young man. He was kind of a Jesus-figure to him, but Henry knew he was just the same as him, a flesh-and-bone being. Henry was shy and silent and Walter was the same, introverted and calm. They fit perfectly, connected by the invisible red string that was tied around their ankles.
Shaken from his wandering thoughts, Henry smiled as he felt smooth lips and rough stubble gliding against his neck. He managed to face Walter, ignoring the strong grip of the other man's arms and managing to whisper, "I love you," before pushing him backwards onto the bed.

A/N: Boy howdy, I forgot I wrote this. This is something like three years old now. Also, in case anyone didn't know, the 'red string' is a concept from an old Chinese legend. Essentially, a couple connected by a red string means they are soulmates.
