Alice glared up at Jasper, her eyes piercing into his. Jasper merely looked forward, his gaze fixed onto the dirt road in front of him. He could feel Alice's fury at him seeping from her, like a hot, fiery liquid. Still, he didn't want to hear what she had to say to him. He already had a vague clue.
Alice had her arms folded across her chest, trying to keep pace with Jasper's steps. Anger and frustration with him overflowed inside her. He had gotten hurt! Looking down, she let her eyes wander until she found the bright white scar on his upper arm. Oh, God…She had heard about how bad it burned your skin, vampire venom…Her poor Jasper had to go through this because she hadn't fought… Biting her lip, she looked back down and tried to focus on the tiny particles of dirt.
Jasper suddenly felt her mood change. A sudden wave of sadness hit him, its cold dreariness seeming to soak him. Looking at Alice, he saw her head bowed low, and sighed. Stopping, he reached out and took her in his long arms. She buried her face into his shirt, wrapping her arms around his waist. Jasper laid his head on top of hers, inhaling her sweet scent. Stroking her hair, he suddenly noticed that her mood had changed yet again…regret, it seemed to be.
He suddenly stopped, kneeling down. The bright moon shone brightly, basking them in silvery light. It seemed to make her golden eyes sparkle as Jasper looked at her. "Alice," he whispered, taking her hand, "What's wrong, love?"
Alice, still biting her lip, finally began to speak. "…I'm so sorry, Jasper…I…I should have went and fought…If I had did, then…you may not have this…scar…" Her cold fingertips ran up his muscled arm to the tiny crescent shaped mark. It was freezing cold even to her, and she winced.
Jasper closed his eyes for a moment. Her cold hand felt good against his arm…it soothed the burning sensation that bubbled so angrily below his skin. Opening his eyes, he took her small face into his hands and gently ran his thumb across her cheek. "Alice…its not your fault…please, don't blame yourself…I didn't want you to get hurt out there…" He paused for a moment, as if he were thinking.
Alice took this moment of silence and suddenly pressed her lips to his. Jasper, surprised but pleased, followed suit, their lips crashing together. Alice's tiny hands stroked his blond curly hair, while Jasper's ran through Alice's short hair. A sudden gust of wind tore through the night, ruffling the fallen leaves around them. Jasper pulled away and looked up into the night sky. Alice looked at him. His eyes seemed to be lost, wandering into the heavens. His deep golden eyes seemed to glow like one of the stars he was gazing at.
"What are you thinking, Jasper?" she asked him quietly, still wrapped in his arms. Jasper looked down at her, eyes surveying her pale face. "I'm just wondering how lucky I was to get such a special girl like you…" he murmured, leaning in to kiss her forehead gently. Alice smiled faintly. "We were made for each other, Jasper…" she whispered, hugging him closer. Jasper grinned.
Alice was suddenly picked up, and she laughed, her voice echoing through the forest like bells. Jasper smiled even bigger, and they began to walk again. Alice snuggled closer to Jasper, laying her head against his chest. "I love you Jasper…" she said, looking into his eyes.
Jasper leaned down to kiss her once again. " I love you too, Alice…" he murmured back.
