Sorting Hat Knows Best

by CookieMonsterxx3

Rose Weasley waited in the long line of students who were getting sorted by the Sorting Hat. Rose had been a little worried at first- What did they have to do to get sorted? But as they entered the Great Hall, and she saw the infamous Sorting Hat, her worries died down a little. All she was worried about now was getting sorted into Slytherin, but she tried not to. Her mother, father, and everyone in her father's family had been in Gyriffindor.

The list went slowly, and Professor McGonagall was still in the L's.

"Malfoy, Scorpious!" Professor McGonagall called sharply. Rose was pulled immediately out of her deep thoughts, having heard the name. Malfoy? She remembered her father and Harry talking about him sometimes. Said things about how the whole family were dark wizards, and that most of the family were death eaters. Scorpio was going to be in Slytherin. There was no doubt in Rose's mind, as Scorpio bounded up to the stool and sat himself down upon it.

"Hmm..." the hat started. Wait! Rose thought. Didn't all Malfoys get put in Slytherin the second the hat touches their head? That's what daddy said!

"Tricky, very tricky. Have a mixture of it all, don't you?" the hat sighed. "Where to put you? A Malfoy, I see. Whole family has been in Slytherin... But I don't quite believe it would do you justice. Oh, yes, you would do great things there. But your heart, your heart, belongs elsewhere.

Rose's eyes widened as the hat went on. Everyone was letting out gasps of surprise and shock. Apparently they all expected Scorpio to become a Slytherin.

"GRYFFINDOR!" the Sorting Hat cried.

Silence.

Still silence. No one made a sound. Everyone held their breath as Scorpious slowly made his way to the Gryffindor table. His face was full of shock, but somewhere in his eyes Rose could see that he was happy. Happy to be different. Happy to make a name for himself, by proving everyone wrong.

Scorpious Malfoy was a Gryffindor. The hat didn't make a mistake, for the Sorting Hat is always right.

Applause roared in Rose's ears, and it wasn't until everyone else stopped that she realized she was still clapping.
