Never assume the obvious is true.
-William Safire-
Prologue
The lights of Manhattan were shining, the traffic was terrible and the night came with an ivory sky; everything was the same as usual. Well, that is a fact that could only be true if you didn't look past the surface.
After all, there were 1, 6 million souls in this town and with so many lives, how come everything could stay the same? As a matter of a fact, things were changing at least for one resident of the Big Apple and it wasn't for the best.
On the other hand, for some people, life was going on with no changes. However, questions without answers were getting more and more crowded inside these people's mind. At least, it was true for one of them.
Two hearts, two spirits: both living in the same town without knowing each other, strangers and nothing else...yet.
He was a broken man, lost in a world that took too much away from him. He didn't want help or anyone: just his old life back. Unfortunately, the bitter truth was there, always on his mind: the past is behind and you can't bring it to life. That was his worst issue right now and dealing with it was the second.
She was a scared but nevertheless, a strong woman. Her life had been like a beautiful garden: blooming, full of marvellous flowers and colourful. But like every garden, hers hadn't been spared by death. She didn't know what she truly wanted and that was bothering her a lot. That was probably the biggest burden of her life and she wasn't able to get rid of it.
Their present lives couldn't have been more different but if you took a look at their pasts, you could see a few similarities.
She had been raised by her father in a beautiful mansion in New Jersey. When she was eleven years of age, she became an orphan. Her aunt brought her to Manhattan and took good care of her. Since those days, she stayed in the city and even rented her own apartment the day of her twentieth anniversary.
After living with a careless mother during fifteen years, he had been taken into the care of two wonderful human beings. Thinking that the Bronx wasn't the best place to raise such a troubled young man, they decided to buy a row house in Brooklyn. Years later, wishing to be independent, he left his foster parent's house and found an apartment in Manhattan.
They had a similar background but in every other aspect, they were like day and night.
They were not meant to meet each other, it should have been impossible in fact. She was the sun; passionate and radiant. Sadly, her sky was occasionally drowned by rain clouds. He was the moon in a sky devoid of any stars: he was surrounded by his growing inner darkness. Their lives were practically separated in two individual dimensions. After all, days are reserved to the sun and nights to the moon, right? Well, not exactly...
Have you ever heard about a strange thing called an eclipse? It is a wonderful and very rare phenomenon in the course of which the sun and the moon meet. Apparently, it is very dangerous to watch, but it has such beauty that some people have seen it and it is a vision one can never forget...
Both stars are together, embracing each other. They bring the best out of the other one: the sun makes the moon shine with its true light and in return, the moon protects his lover from everything. Together, they are invincible.
She didn't care about eclipses; neither did he actually. Probably because they didn't know they were about to create one...
