We're different than most couples.

We don't whisper sweet nothings in each others' ears. We don't exchange ooey-gooey words of love in public for everyone to hear. Our hands are never all over each other, and we have no trouble keeping our mouths to ourselves when people are watching. We aren't openly affectionate, or even openly civil.

People are often surprised to find out that we are even together. They ask me why I hate that man so much, and I find it funny, because they don't really even understand.

Our tongues are sharp and our brains are keen. We run circles around each other at the dinner table. We both shoot off little clever insults here and there, we both interrupt one another's conversations with small, well-placed comments to spark debate.

People find us unorthodox. You often tell me that you've never been normal anyway, so why bother trying?

To be simple like everyone else would be so boring, for the both of us. If either of us wanted a person to just hold hands with we would have married someone with less of a mind. Cuddling doesn't help you think, it's blank, it's lame.

We started our relationship as enemies. It worked well for us. We keep each other on our toes. After all, you're the only one that offers any challenge to me, and I to you. We take sides on issues of politics and science, and we argue until both of us have changed our minds. And then we argue some more because we're still on opposite sides.

People just can't comprehend how we can live together. They had expected us to break up within a year. We never seem to agree on anything.

Imagine how boring it would be if we did?

And though we don't whisper sweet nothings or exchange ooey-gooey words of love, often I will quote a piece of poetry and meet your eye, you'll know who it was intended for and what it means.

And though our hands are never all over each other, and we have no trouble keeping our mouths to ourselves, every once in a while you will squeeze my hand under the table and wink.

And though we aren't openly affectionate, or even civil, our words are never meant to hurt. They are soft and teasing. And every so often you will find a piece of a veiled compliment in my speech.

Because I love you, and I show it in my own little ways. Just as you show me in yours. We aren't normal, but we understand each other.

We're different than most couples. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

AN: I tried an A/M. I think that it's pretty OOC, but I'm used to A/H. If it's OOC I'm sorry, I was just trying to make A/M interesting. xD
