Lily huffs and gathers her belongings and book bag from the floor.

"How is it possible that we already have three assignments and we only have this class twice a week?" Skylar, who Lily had just met before class, throws her bag over her shoulder and stands.

"They don't call him Sarge for nothing." They laugh as they head for the door, leaving Brian, a friend of Skylar's, to catch up.

"Rightfully so." He jogs behind them.

"We're headed to that diner around the corner for lunch and also, to strategize how we're going to overthrow Rogers. You in?"

"Oooh," Lily smiles. "Count me in."

"Which topic are you covering for the term paper?" Brian asks.

She sighs. "Most likely the Prison Experiment. Or the Obedience one. Honestly I have no idea; they seem to be the ones less likely to put me to sleep."

"I know what you mean…"

They barely get outside the campus gates when Lily stops. She doesn't even hear the rest of the conversation. She's waiting for her fight or flight instincts to kick in, either one will do, as she continues to stare at what she hopes is an hallucination of Jay leaning near the gates. Brian and Skylar finally notice her reaction and only when the latter mutters a 'wow' does she realize she isn't imagining him there.

When he finally opens his mouth, she has the urge to put her foot in it. "It's good to see you're alive and well with the way you dropped off the face of the earth and all."

"You knew I was in school."

He straightens and moves toward her. "You stopped taking my calls."

Lily rolls her eyes. "Phone calls fall under the category of encroaching on your space. I'm doing you a favor." She turns and walks in the opposite direction.

Jay scoffs. "So I come all the way out here and you're not even going to talk to me?"

"I didn't ask you to do that!" She stomps her foot.

He sighs and looks around, before he takes another step towards her. "I wanted to see you."

Lily shakes her head. "No. You don't get to say that to me."

"Why not? Its' the truth!"

"You broke up with me."

Jay hesitates for a second before responding. "That wasn't a break up. I just needed to process."

"And did you?" She nods and turns in the other direction when he doesn't respond. "I thought so."

He quickly grabs her hand and scrambles for something to say. "Just give me a minute. One fucking minute to think!"

"Okay, I've seen enough." Brian steps forward. Lily blinks and remembers her friends for the first time since noticing Jay. "Why don't you just leave? She obviously doesn't want to talk to you, man."

Jay looks him up and down. "Who the hell asked you?" He doesn't wait for a response as his gaze moves back to Lily. "Why don't you mosey along and mind your own damn business?"

Brian moves in front of him, blocking his view. "She is my business."

"Since when?" He meets Lily's eyes over Brian's shoulder. "Who the hell is this guy? You have a bodyguard now?"

Lily rolls her eyes again. "Trust me, if I did you wouldn't have gotten within ten feet of me." Despite her harsh words, she has the urge to reassure him. Tell him that he has nothing to worry about: Brian's just a friend. Instead, she continues to scowl.

Jay laughs before sidestepping Brian and clapping him on the shoulder. "Run off and let me and mommy settle this. I just need five minutes."

"You've already had ten."

"Five more. Please." She looks at her watch as confirmation. He leads her away from a hovering Brian and a curious Skylar. "I...didn't handle things right. I was just-surprised, I guess?—and not expecting it. You shocked the hell out of me and I just started talking before I even thought about it." Jay takes a breath as he tries to read her face. "With that being said, you know how I grew up. I lived in house where my mother claimed to love my father and she screwed him over." His laughter is bitter. "She made him crazy as hell. I mean, one minute she was happy and the next she was drinking and screaming at him that he didn't pay enough attention to her. She wanted him home more but she would be angry when he brought home a different paycheck. My father wasn't much better. He couldn't keep it in his pants. I wouldn't be surprised if some long lost child appears out of fucking nowhere. My mother found out and confronted him. He actually fucking put his hands on her." His fists pull at the roots of his hair and he clears his throat when he sees the pity in her eyes. "Is that love? Never being good enough? Lying hands on someone?" He moves closer to her and reaches for her, but instead moves his hand to the back of his neck. "I don't want that to be us."

"Who says that it has to be?"

"I don't know if I know how to..."

And suddenly she's angry again. "Then why the hell did you bother coming all the way out here?"

Jay throws his hands up. "Because I don't fucking know how to be without you." He shakes his head. "I don't even remember what it was like before."

Lily deflates. "Oh."

"Yea, oh." They both shuffle their feet. "What are you doing right now? Can we do lunch?"

She laughs, shaking her head. "That's going to take more than five minutes."

His smile is slow to appear. "That's the idea."

"Jesus, take your clothes off, baby." Lily moves her hand from the zipper on his jeans and pulls her own shirt over her head. Jay quickly removes his shoes and tugs his jeans down while one of his hands move back to her waist and down to her thighs. Her legs close around his waist when he picks her up and they tumble on top of the bed. He pulls his jeans from around his ankles before lowering the straps and cups of her bra. His lips close around her left nipple and tugs as his hands move on her waist to lift her hips.

Lily throws her head back and her nails leave red lines across his back. She wraps her legs higher around his waist and moans when he grinds against her again. "God, yes!"

"Mmm, like that?" He emphasizes his point with another well placed thrust between the v of her legs and even though her panties are still on her back arches and her mouth opens in a silent 'o'. "God, I fucking missed you." A ringing interrupts their breathing. Jess' ringtone, he realizes a second later.

"Leave it."

Jay utters a curse. "I can't. That's his work number." He grapples for the phone over the side of the bed in his jeans pocket. He quickly retrieves it before retaking his previous position and takes the call. "Talk fast." Lily draws her feet around his back and starts toeing off his boxers. "Jesus." His head falls between her shoulder and neck.

"There's no need for me to mention anything to Jimmy about things past, right?" Jess starts.

"What do you mean?"

"Let's just say it's about something he didn't agree with before, now that he's stepped down I might have went against daddy's wishes."

Jay groans. "You want the fucking Russian, don't you?"

Jess laughs. "I may have gotten him already."

Lily frustrated with Jay's lack of participation pushes up on his chest. He turns over and she climbs on top of him. He grabs her hands before she can do anything else. "I don't see any reason to, although he is Jimmy so he'll probably find out some other way. It doesn't fall under Adverse Effects."

"Good." Lily scoots backwards down his chest and grinds down on his cock. He automatically releases her hands and can't stop the expletive from leaving his mouth. Her hands move to his stomach and she repeats the action, this time throwing her head back and moaning. "What the hell was that?"

Jay quickly ends the call and tosses the phone on the nightstand before his hands find purchase on her hips. He flips them over and tugs her panties down her legs. In the next second, his head is buried between her legs.

"So, you'll never guess who called me." Lorelai starts. She continues when her daughter doesn't respond. "Your dad."

Rory sighs. "Oh yea?"

She nods over the phone. "He really doesn't like your hubby."

"I think the feeling's mutual." Rory slides down against the headboard.

"That's why he wants us to go out to dinner." She waits for Rory's response. "With him. And Jess."

"Dinner?" Rory bites her lip.

"Out. I think he wants to because he'll be less likely to react in a public setting."

"I wouldn't bet on it. Okay."

"Okay?" Lorelai repeats.

"I mean I'll have to ask Jess, but if he doesn't want to go I'm not forcing him."

Jess chooses that moment to enter the room. "Ask me what?"

Rory sits up. "Uh..." She barely registers Lorelai's hasty 'bye!' on the phone and only realizes when she hears the busy signal. She hangs up and places the phone on the base before facing Jess again. "To dinner."

He looks at her for a second. "With?"

"Me."

Jess chuckles, removing his jacket and shirt. "Just you and me?"

"Well mom. And dad might be there too."

He stops and faces her. "Might be? Or is?"

"Is?" She quickly continues when he huffs and sits on the end of the bed. "You don't have to. It's just that he called mom wanting to know about you and now he wants us to go out to have dinner. It's going to be in public, so..."

He laughs again and rubs his hands over his face. "Well, at least there's that." He watches her bite her lip, waiting for his response, and sighs. "Okay."

"Okay." She smiles. "I'll call mom."

He nods. "I better start getting out my protective gear."

"Jesus." Jay breathes, rolling off of Lily.

"God, you're good at that."

They both stare at the ceiling, trying to catch their breath.

Lily turns her head and stares at him as he leans back against the headboard, cigarette now in his mouth. "I can't believe we just did that."

Jay snickers. "Need a repeat?" She hits his shoulder and grabs the cigarette from his hand, putting it between her lips. "Since when do you smoke?"

"A lot of things have changed, you know?"

He raises his eyebrows at her. "In one week?" He laughs as she starts coughing and takes the cigarette back from her. She glares at him. Jay studies her for a minute, before putting the cigarette back between his lips and inhaling. His hand moves to her face, thumb tracing her lips for her to open up; his mouth covers hers and he exhales.

She doesn't cough as much this time.

He does it again.

"Lorelai. Mr. Hayden." He shakes the other man's hand. A look of relief passes across his face when he sees Luke. He takes his hand as they head towards their table, and leans in towards Luke. "Boy am I glad to see you." The older man laughs.

Chris and Luke both pull out a chair for Lorelai. Luke looks at him pointedly and he holds his hands up in surrender and sits. He barely waits for them to sit down before he starts. "Now that I know that you've impregnated my daughter, why don't we get down to it?" Rory looks at Lorelai, who calls his name warningly. He ignores it. "Let me make this clear, I don't like you very much."

"Huh." Jess picks up his menu. "Well, that just put a damper on my night." Luke snorts.

He continues. "I don't think you're good enough for my daughter."

"That makes two of us." The waitress comes to take their drink orders. Jess orders a scotch on the rocks and faces Rory's warning glance, leaning in towards her. "If I have to deal with this all night then I'm gonna need something strong."

Rory gives in. "Fair enough."

The table is silent until the waitress returns with their drinks. Jess downs his right away and grabs her hand before she can leave and taps his glass to indicate a refill.

"You want to slow down there, buddy?" Jess clenches his jaw, in an effort to ignore Christopher.

Luke interrupts. "So, Jess, how does it feel to finally be in charge?"

"Mostly the same, I'm kind of used to being in the hot seat. Jimmy's in for quite a surprise. I'll let you know how it goes if he doesn't kill me."

"How's that girlfriend of yours, Jess?"

Lorelai glares. "Christopher, that's enough!"

Chris downs his drink. "I'm just trying to get to know him, Lor."

Jess glares in his direction. "And how the hell are you trying to do that? You haven't asked me one direct question that's wasn't a dig."

Christopher smirks. "How's that father of yours, Jimmy was it?" Jess clenches his fists. Chris ignores Rory's warning tone and Lorelai's hand on his shoulder. "Is he still seeing what's-her-name? Sa-, sas-something." He pretends to ponder. "Sasha?"

Jess stands. Rory quickly stands and tugs on his arm. "You know, I know what you're doing and I don't like it. So why don't you shut your trap, before I put my foot in it." He stops resisting and allows her to lead him outside. "We shouldn't have done this." He pulls out a cigarette from his jacket pocket. "I'm not going back in there."

"I don't expect you to." She storms back inside as Jess reaches in his pants for a lighter and watches her through the window.

Lorelai sees her first and notices the determined look on her face. "Get in line."

Rory notices Luke and Christopher in a heated discussion but continues over anyway. "What the hell is wrong with you?"

Luke walks away and Chris has the nerve to look abashed. "Rory-"

"I thought you were going to try. He was going to try and you sat there and berated him the entire time! Why did you even want to do this? To humiliate him? I don't get it-" Chris tries to interrupt again, but she holds her hand up to stop. "I can't even look at you right now." She heads back outside to a waiting Lorelai and Luke and looks at them questioningly. Lorelai points to the far end of the street where Jess is waiting by his car. Rory smiles at them half-heartedly before she heads in the same direction.

It had been silent the whole way home. She's waiting on him to say something-anything. And he won't say anything unless she does. Still she patiently waits as she gets a change of clothes out of the closet and as she goes into the bathroom. Jess leans against the bed frame and watches her, cigarette hanging from his lips. Only when she comes out of the bathroom, does Rory finally speak. He's still in the same place, only this time staring into nothing.

"I'm sorry. If I'd known he would've-we wouldn't have-" She quickly discontinues that thought, because she doesn't know what she's saying. "You don't even have to see him anymore."

Jess scoffs. "Of course I do, he's your father."

Rory deflates, sitting on the edge of the bed. "I should-should I go?"

"Why?" He asks bluntly.

"It's just..." She looks down at her hands before continuing. "...we never talked about what would happen when-I mean you're going back to the office tomorrow, so it's not like you need me here to-"

"Rory," His moves to her cheek and lifts her head. "Shut up." His lips glide over hers and she lets out a startled gasp at how pillowy soft they are against hers. He pulls her top lip between his own and slides his tongue along the top row of her teeth before tugging her bottom lip between his and sucking gently. Rory grips the bed tightly, before pulling herself closer towards him. His tongue is warm and tastes like mint and scotch and she's surprised the cigarette smoke on his breath doesn't turn her off. He frees his left hand, by moving his cigarette to the nightstand, in order to grip the ends of her hair. She whimpers and clutches at his thighs in order to brace herself as she climbs in his lap. The hand in her hair winds around his fist and he tugs her head back to halt her movements. A trail of saliva follows when he lowers his lips to her chin. He uses her chest as a pillow in an attempt to get his breathing under control. "Do you want to go?" His voice comes out gritty.

Her cheeks are flushed and she licks her lips, trying to get her bearings. "If you want me to, then-"

Jess groans and lifts his head to meet her eyes. "Do you want to go?" He repeats.

Her voice comes out in a whisper. "No."

His answering smile reassures her.

"Isn't she-?" Jess looks at her, but she cuts him off, 'shh'ing him. "I just don't understand how-"

Rory glares at him before she pauses the movie. "What did I say before the movie?" She waits expectantly for his response, but cuts him off when he starts to respond. "No talking during the movie, now I had to pause it and we lose the flow of things."

He raises an eyebrow, patiently waiting for her to finish. "Can I say something now?"

She sighs. "If you must."

"Where the hell did she get all that money from? No one is evening questioning her. She's only nine. No child has that much freedom, strength or money."

"That's what's so great about it!" Jess scoffs at her response. "You're over thinking this. And ruining this, by the way." She huffs and gets up off the couch.

Jess rolls his eyes. "Sit down."

She faces him. "Do you promise to stop talking and asking annoying questions?" He tugs on her arm and she falls back onto the couch. "Fine." She presses the play button and faces the screen. Jess watches her, until she faces him a few minutes later, smile gracing her face. "Ooh, pay close attention to-"

"Why do you get to talk and I don't?"

"Because I know not to talk during the important parts. Now, shh!" A few minutes later they hear Jimmy's voice calling for Jess, who groans and throws his head back against the couch. "Aren't you going to answer him?"

He doesn't move from his spot on the couch. "He'll find me eventually." Beat. "How the hell did he even get in?"

"Jess!" A second later, Jimmy appears in the doorway. "Study. Now." He turns and walks away without waiting for him.

"What did you do?"

Jess smirks, standing. "What makes you think I did something?" Rory shakes her head as he follows after Jimmy.

Jess barely walks into his study when Jimmy smacks a newspaper into his chest.

"What the hell is this?"

He looks down at the paper in his hands before looking back up. "The Wall Street Journal." Jimmy glares at his son, but doesn't say anything. "Not the answer you were looking for? Okay." Jess looks back down at the paper and notices a picture of him shaking Dimitri's hand along with the heading, 'St. Petersburg Analyst, Dimitri Makar, Upgrades Company to "Strong Buy" from previous "Outperform" rating'. He's not even finished reading the headine when Jimmy starts again.

"You've barely been back two days and the first thing you do after taking over is the one thing I didn't agree with." Jimmy snatches the paper back from Jess' hands and points it in his face, before continuing. "If you're making decisions out of spite, then you're going to make me regret this."

Jess rolls his eyes and heads for the door. "Then it's a good thing you made me sign that ridiculous contract, isn't it?"

Jimmy follows after him. "Were you even thinking when you did this?"

"Does it not matter that this increases revenue by 10%? I told you I thought this guy knew what he was doing, that I liked the way he did things, but once again you weren't listening. The fact you think that I did this out of spite really shows your faith in me." He walks off, not caring whether Jimmy stays or leaves. He gets his answer a second later when the front door slams. When he gets back to the living room, he meets Rory asleep on the couch. Jess picks her up and heads upstairs. She startles at the movement. "Go back to sleep."

"What are you doing? I'm still watching Pippi."

Jess scoffs. "You were not. And I'm moving you upstairs, unless you want Jimmy walking in and murdering you in your sleep."

"Oh. That would be bad."

"Yep." He closes the door with his foot and walks over to the bed, depositing her on it. He stops when her shirt rides up and he notices the small pouch in the form of her stomach. Her movement on the bed startles him and he finds his hand resting on her stomach. He quickly retracts it, finding her eyes open. "Should it already be like that?"

Rory shrugs. "I woke up and it was there." Jess nods, still staring at it. "Plus I read online that it can happen as early as 8 weeks, so I can always make sure when I go in for my appointment next time." She watches him carefully, as he nods again. "You can touch it if you want."

Jess shakes his head, finally moving away from her. "I'm good."
