Persistent
By angellwings
Sharpay groaned as banging sounded from her bedroom door. She reached an arm across the bed and shoved her husband's shoulder.
"Your turn," She muttered.
"How is it my turn?" He mumbled sleepily.
"I was the first up last year. It's your turn," She told him.
"I feel like you're lying and hoping I won't remember last year," Zeke said just before he yawned.
"Maybe, then again maybe not. All I know is…the banging needs to stop," Sharpay said.
Zeke chuckled, "Well, that's what happens when you make them go to bed early on Christmas Eve."
"We had a lot to do last night, and we couldn't do it with them still up," She sighed.
"Oy," Zeke said as the banging became louder.
"We're coming!" Sharpay yelled. The banging stopped and feet could be heard running down the steps.
"We have to get up," Zeke told her.
"I know," She whined.
"They won't leave us alone until we do."
"Why must our children be so persistent?" She asked.
He chuckled, "Because they take after you."
"No, I do believe you are the persistent one," She told him.
"Why's that?"
"Because you're the one who never gave up on me," She told him with a smile and a kiss on the lips.
He sighed laboriously and got out of bed. Sharpay watched him curiously as he slipped on his robe over his pajamas, "What are you doing?"
"I'm heading out to start the coffee and make breakfast," He told her.
"Why?"
"Because you think I'm the persistent one. What other reason do I need?" He asked as if it were obvious. "Besides if you cook breakfast our eggs will be charred."
She let out an offended gasp and then threw a pillow at him as he sprinted through their bedroom door. He peeked his head back in and laughed, "Missed me!"
"You just wait until later," She said with a glare. "I'll tell Emmett he's not allowed to help you in the kitchen today."
His eyes widened, "You wouldn't take my assistant away from me!"
"I'll tell him he can play video games all day, and then your little assistant won't even remember you exhist," She told him with a playful glare.
"Fine, I'll get Ella to help me. She can help me make those cream horns she likes so much, and you can play with that karaoke machine you got her all by yourself," He smirked before heading down the hall.
"Don't you dare!" She called after him as she jumped out of bed and grabbed her own pale pink fleece robe and slipped on her matching slippers.
