Disclaimer: I almost feel this way sometimes
Summary: He was loud because if he wasn't, they'd never hear him.
Authors Note: The story itself is pretty much a longer version of the summary, but I like it nonetheless.

Never Hear

They used to ask him why he was loud, way back when it was the Academy and words were considered useless unless you had the skill to back them up. They pondered over this assumption that it was for attention, along with the bright colours, for many years. They wasted their precious thought time over him, and that almost felt good.
But this wasn't the real reason, and they would never know.
He has fought in battles so hard most people would bleed just listening to him weave his tale. He unleashed the wrath of a demon--a feared horrible monstrosity so evil that no one spoke of it, they only hit him--upon unsuspecting people banded together to destroy his life and the Five Countries.
And all throughout these battles he screamed his insults, he yelled his victory, and he let out a loud wail of defeat.
The real reason was purely status. He wasn't from a clan. He wasn't rich, or strong, or powerful. He knew no one of great power--well he knew Ojii-san but he couldn't put that burden on the kindly old man. There was no echo of greatness yet to come that made people fall silent. All he had was a loud voice.
And he used it. He knew that someday he would have power, have honour, but mostly, he would have friends.
Until then he yelled. Because he knew--knowledge imbedded deep in his young bones housing a much deeper knowledge and pain and the knowledge of that pain--that if he didn't yell. If he didn't proclaim in a voice louder than a bomb they wouldn't listen.
They wouldn't hear him.
So he fought his way back to his feet, ignoring the pain in his heart and side. His blonde hair glistened in the sun as he raised himself up, his blue eyes shining manically with the determination commonly used with the name Uzumaki Naruto. He glared at the man with red eyes before him. This was not his best friend; this was a murderer. And he does not forgive so easily anymore.
" Bring it on…Uchiha."
And though it was a whisper, a kiss on the wind, they heard. They all heard him, because they believed in him.
And that's all he needed.
