And as the cool wind lashed against her overheated skin, she ran, closing her eyes, not bothering to cringe against each harsh whip, or shield herself against the torrid pain. Her eyes clouded with tears, and everything became a blur. Everything except one thing, everything except her salvation.
And as she got closer to it, her shoulders grew lighter. It was as if each burden she'd carried since he stepped into her life was breaking away from her, with each step, with each brush of the wind.
She could here a frantic roar just behind her, and she knew, without a doubt that it was Jacob. She was too far away though, too close to her destination to be saved, but as the thundering footsteps against the forest floor grew louder, she knew that Jacob would never stop trying to save her, even if she was a lost cause.
That was just Jacob's way, and she loved him more than he could ever realize for that.
She quickly sent a silent prayer up for Jacob's happiness, may he find true love and be as blissfully happy as she once was.
The dirt trail was ending, she was getting closer, and she closed her eyes, letting the last few tears of many fall right before she jumped.
