Title: Rule Number 2

Author: jamie55

Summary: At Tom and James wedding Barney and Robin dance.

A/N: sorry but I don't recall the exact details for that episodes flash forwards, but wiki - a reliable source in my eyes .org/wiki/Ted_Mosby - said in the Robin section of Romantic Interest that "They remain friends and are seen, via flash forward, dancing at James and Tom's wedding, which should occur sometime in Season 4. " and I got creative even though I should be doing my homework. Also this is unbeta'ed. Someone just told me that wiki was wrong on the date, sorry.

A/N/N: And I've decided, although I don't read spoilers I have picked up other hint spoilers that a few people have written about it being a possibility, that Ted and Robin are here dating. It works better with the mentioned song.

Disclaimer: I don't own himym or Taylor Swift's music.

Robin and Ted danced, enjoying Tom and James excellent taste in music. Barney, meanwhile, was watching his nephew while the small boy's new parents danced happily.

"Buddy, I'm gonna teach you all my best secrets. I'm going to be the best darn Uncle in the whole world." The baby giggled joyfully as he stretched his arms out to try and reach his Uncle. "Woa there, rule number one, never mess with another man's suit." He raised his eyes and his gaze met Ted and Robin. Robin laughs softly, over something Ted said which Barney could not hear. "Rule number two. Never fall in love." He said looking longingly to Robin.

"Did I hear correctly?" James came up behind him. "Love?"

"No of course not…" Barney said quietly looking away from Robin and smiling back down at the baby. "I was just telling my favorite nephew a few rules, being married now you obviously don't remember how important it is-"

"Drop the act, Barney, Lily already told me."

"Lily.." He said in a tone of vengeance, cursing her beneath his breath, he wasn't going to do that in front of a baby. "It's no big deal."

"Alright, it's no big deal, then go ask her to dance."

"She's already dancing with Ted." He pointed to them, excusing himself. Just then the song finished and Barney's arm dropped.

"Go." James commanded.

Taylor Swift's 'Teardrops on my guitar' came on. Ted parted from Robin and went to the bathroom. Robin was about to sit back down when she saw Barney come up to her.

"Hey Barney." She said cheerfully. "Having fun?" She knew how much he hated weddings.

"Yeah… Uhmm Robin?" She waited as he nervously, no he couldn't be nervous could he?, asked her: "Would you like to … dance?"

"Sure." They took their places and began to slowly dance. He brought her in, close to him, close enough for her to feel his breath on her face. Eyes intend on her. There seemed to almost be a sort of sadness in them. But somehow it was mixed with a sea of content, for the moment at least. This caught her off guard, scared her a little.

"Barney…" She didn't know what else to say. He was so close now. She saw how tired he seemed to be, the dimple in his cheeks when he smiled gently and responded.

"Hmm?" Teasing her as they almost stopped moving and the small space between them seem to disappear.

"We're dancing really close.." She whispered. What's was wrong with her? This would be when she pushed him away and questioned his behavior and tell him he was freaking her out.

"uh huh." But he was so warm, and he smelled so clean, and … and something in her stopped her from pushing him back. Something deep deep down let his arms wrap around her. Something deep down let his breath now moistening her cheek.

"Yeah…" The song seemed to conclude quickly.

"Drew looks at me, I fake a smile so he won't see.."

Suddenly the dance was over. And Barney now stood a good half meter from her. They stood, awkwardly, Barney smiling sadly took a deep breath before asking if she wanted to meet his nephew. Robin offered a small smile in return and quietly answered that she'd loved to.
