Hello All,

Even years later I am getting messages about this fic. I feel bad really, I put the most thought into this story and how I was going to take it and where - it was really ambitious of me at the time and possibly even now because it was going to be a long and elaborate one filled with deception and twists but I don't have it in me anymore I am doing so much right now - working, skiing, dating, watching amazing shows and reading cool books I have lost interest.

But I will summarize in plain English what I had planned for the fic to at least give you the muted satisfaction of understanding and knowing.

- This whole thing started because there was a war going on and one wizarding society decided to run off to seek shelter with one leader (I can't remember now) seeking a talisman that would save the people and potentially grant immortality to a chosen one.

- They come across Veela along the way (traditional Slavic Veela can transform into wolves, swans and etc). These Veela say they know of the Talisman and are coaxed to help the wizards.

- In my fic Arthur Weasley is fucked up. While married to Molly he falls in love with the Head Veela's child and violates/kills her. He is caught and the Veela attack. To protect themselves and Arthur the Elders cast a spell meant to stop the Veela by removing them from this plane of reality. But as I mention in earlier chapters magic is convoluted and tricky in this universe so they mistakenly drag themselves into another realm with the Veela (however the Veela are prevented from entering the village and the wizards cannot enter the forest properly but for nightfall when they can meet). Arthur was younger and has no recollection. Time is slow in this world and wizards live a very long time anyway. The Veela remember everything - hence the sadistic pleasure in killing off Weasleys

- The spell also alters memory so the villagers don't really recollect why things have changed or when (but for a few select characters - I dont recall which).

- After the previous chapter Fleur (the second daughter of the head Veela that died in the realm change and sister of the violated girl) starts off seducing Hermione to visit her outside because she knows the barrier to Hermione's house is weakened and she needs someone on the inside to help her. She intends to control Hermione with her power but ends up smitten by the stubborn/intelligent brunette. The fact that Hermione used a lock of Fleur's hair to create magic is my tongue and cheek reference to wands using parts of magical creatures to create spells and she uses that locket eventually to enact some magic. All very slowburn between the two of them with a lot of suspicion on the Veela side.

- In the village after Ron dies Harry becomes really gung ho on killing off the Veela and starts a task force basically planning a curse to obliterate all the Veela while everyone hides in their houses. Hermione realises she needs to stop him after she finds everything out (The reveal itself about the history of the village is a little up in the air because I couldn't decide how).

- It gets dark and messy because what ends up happening is Hermione has to choose between the village and the Veela but she feels like the odd one - a part of neither society. Fleur though in love with Hermione is always conflicted and cold though passionate when she allows herself to be. This bit is fuzzy in my head because it's been so long but Harry starts up the magic to kill off the entire society of Veela and Hermione uses the lock of hair to quickly cast a spell meant to shove them all back into reality - however while the magic is far more potent than any runes it is still unstable. She sends them back to reality just as Harry unleashes the spell but it goes completely wrong and the spell he released strikes only the homes where the villagers are. Some make it out and are slaughtered by Veela. Hermione tries to get Fleur to stop it but she cannot (or maybe just won't).

- When it's over Hermione is alone surrounded by Veela and its all very bittersweet because she is horrified and Fleur says nothing and doesn't touch her.

- Here is where I got a little stuck. It felt right to end it with Fleur saying "I love you" and then just leaving her there because the whole tone of the fic was so bleak. But I wanted to make it more uplifting where instead Hermione slaps Fleur after saying the words and walking off. With an epilogue about how Hermione eventually returns a stronger woman and Fleur finds her in Wolf form as a sweeter reunion.

And there you have it. That is what Cat and Mouse might have been. I hope at least this makes some people happy. Have a great long weekend!
