Am I A Loser?
"Do you think he did it?" Brennan turned to Booth, her brow furrowed in thought.
"No, we'll check his whereabouts but no, I don't think so. Nice hat huh? Come on I'll take you back to the lab."
"What happened with your Ricco bust?"
"Nothing, why?" he scoffed, "You been talkin' to Cam?"
"No did you do something wrong?"
"What do you mean?"
"You didn't get the credit you deserve. What'd you do?"
"Life's not all about credit…"
"That's not what you said before; you said life was all about credit. You were going to Hawaii, they were gonna put you on a coin…" she continued on.
"All right, you know what? Let's just forget about it. Ok Bones? Just forget about it."
"Jared warned me that you tend to sabotage yourself."
"Jared!" he whipped around to face her, "said that."
"He said that you're afraid of success…"
"Hmm? So basically I'm a loser?"
"No. he never said the word loser."
"Do you think I'm a loser? Like that guy in there? Some clown, in some dumb ass uniform?" he got closer to her with each syllable. "Who basically can't do any better? Is that what you think?"
"Anthropologically males tend to rank themselves into a hierarchy." He just kept nodding his head at her as she continued, "there's no shame in not being at the top of the hierarchy."
"You're not answering the question Bones!" he was in her face now. "Answer my question!"
He was giving her that stare, the same one she saw him use on suspects in the interrogation room. Finally she collapsed under it.
"No…" she sighed out, finally looking away.
"Why?" he gritted through his teeth, he still wasn't convinced.
"Because…" she once again let her gaze return to meet his, "Because I can't be in love with a loser."
Even as she watched his mouth come towards her in slow motion, she did nothing to stop it, she just closed her eyes and waited for the kiss.
Just then Booth's cell phone rang.
