Here are some scenes from Silver and Gold that ended up on the cutting room floor. They will be included in the DVD Box Set. :)

"Hi Jen. Come in," said Sarah

Jen stepped inside rather awkwardly, holding one hand behind her back and being careful to face Sarah at all times. Sarah gave her a questioning look. "I've brought something for your friend," Jen said with a bright smile. "I hope it's okay."

"You're scaring me, Jen," Sarah said. Jen just smiled enigmatically. Sarah tried to peek around her to see what was behind her back.

"Uh-uh-uh!" Jen said, dancing away from her. "It's for John."

"I think he's in the kitchen," Sarah said. "After you." She gestured toward the door.

Jen took a step, then stopped. "Oh, you are sneaky! No, after you!" Sarah smiled and led the way.

The Doctor was standing in the doorway to the kitchen, leaning against the door frame and holding a cup in both hands. When he saw Jen, a beaming grin appeared on his face, he put the cup on the table and stepped forward to greet her.

"Jen! Hullo!" he said. "Where's Smoke?"

"He's at home, which means I have to get right back before he destroys anything, but I wanted to bring you something and couldn't do it with Smoke along." She brought her hand out from behind her back and showed them what was in it.

A tiny tortoiseshell kitten with four white paws and a white snip on its nose looked up at them.

"Oooooh," the Doctor crooned, and took it from her, holding it up in the air with both hands and looking at it with delight.

"I told the vet's assistant about John's animal magnetism," Jen said to Sarah. "And about him being injured and still, you know, needing some help recovering. And she said I should give him this kitten. She says he's a master healer."

"A what?" Sarah asked, eyebrows up.

Jen nodded emphatically. "A master healer, that's what she said. Someone dropped off a litter of kittens at the vet's office, and this one was in it. They're all looking for homes, but she said this one would be very good for John." She looked at Sarah with her eyebrows up, and then looked at the Doctor and broke into a happy smile. "Gotta go! See you!" And she turned and half-ran out the door.

The Doctor was cuddling the kitten against his chest now, still making little cooing noises to it. Sarah gave him a worried look. "You're not going to hurt it are you?"

"Sarah!" The Doctor looked up at her with a hurt and bewildered expression.

"I didn't mean deliberately," she clarified quickly. "It's just so small. I was afraid you'd drain its energy. How much can it have?"

The Doctor handed her the kitten, and then, before she could pull her hands back, moved his hands around it as if he were outlining a globe. One eyebrow went up as his hands kept moving farther and farther out from the kitten. When he was indicating a globe the size of a beach ball, he said, "That much." He took the kitten back.

Sarah just looked at him, bemused. He gave her a gentle smile. "Sarah, how many times have you held my hand or hugged me or helped me do something that involved touching me in the past few weeks? Did I drain your energy?"

She thought about it for a second then shook her head. "But you said it could be dangerous for Harry."

"Oh," he said. "That. He asked about touching minds. That's different." He stroked the kitten. "And I was only just functional at the time. No way could I have kept it under control."

"But you didn't touch minds with the dogs," she said, struggling to understand. "Did you? How did you take energy from them?"

He shook his head. "I didn't do anything with the dogs. They did it."

Sarah just looked at him, blinking, her mouth hanging open slightly.

The Doctor looked at her as if she were about to dribble on her shirt. "How can you people live on this planet and know so little about the creatures you share it with?" he asked, shaking his head. "Non-human animals are healers, Sarah Jane. Some are better at it than others, of course, just like some people are better at certain things than others. But all animals are healers. Why do you think the dogs run up to me and don't want to leave?"

Sarah just looked at him, trying to wrap her mind around what he was saying. Instead, it snapped to practical matters. "We'd better go shopping, then."

He gave her an eyebrows up quizzical look.

"Kitten food, litter pan, litter, toys..." she answered.

His eyes grew large and liquid. "You don't mind?"

She looked at him--the nine-hundred-plus-year-old Time Lord holding a baby kitten and giving her puppy-dog eyes. She gave a helpless laugh. "I don't think it matters if I mind," she said. "You've bonded.". She looked again at the kitten and remembered the energy field the Doctor had indicated surrounding him. "So, are cat energy and dog energy the same?" she asked.

He squinted his eyes, wrinkled his nose and waggled his head from side to side, thinking. "Similar but different. Cat energy is more.....blue. Well. Green. Bluey-green. Aqua. Turquoise. Yeah, turquoise." he finally decided.

"Maybe you should call him Turq then," she suggested, laughing.

"Why would I do that?" he asked, looking puzzled.

"Well, you'll have to give him a name," she said.

He still looked puzzled. "He has a name."

"Oh, I didn't hear Jen say that. What is it?"

He grimaced. "It's kind of hard to pronounce," he said. "If you're not a cat."

She just stared at him.

"What?" he asked.

"The cat. Has a name. In cat. And you know it."

The Doctor made a dismissive face. "Non-human animals don't try to hide their names. They'll tell anyone. They're so open." He smiled at little Turq. "Not like humans. You're worse than Time Lords. You hide your true names even from yourselves."

She blinked a few times. "Well, if you can't pronounce his real name--unless you're a cat, of course--then what are you going to call him?"

"Oh!" he said. "Oh, well, yes, Turq would do for that. Like Doctor."

Again. Just staring at him.

He gave her a mischievous smile. "You didn't think that was my true name, did you?"

"Is there a name for that psychic diagnostic thing you do?" she asked. He gave her a quizzical look. "Harry and I are tired of calling it the psychic diagnostic thing."

"Oh. Well, it's called..." He said something that sounded like a cross between Chinese and wind chimes..

"Pardon?"

He repeated the sound. When she continued to look blankly at him, he said, "Oh. Sorry. I forgot. There isn't really an English equivalent so I just said it in Gallifreyan and assumed the TARDIS translation circuits would come up with something." He shook his head sadly. "Just call it a mind-meld."

"I think that's copyright Gene Roddenberry's estate," she said.

"He wouldn't mind," he said. The corner of his mouth quirked up. "Where do you think he got it?"

"You never get over some things," he said, looking off to the horizon. After a second, he looked down at her. "But you can get through them." Her wrapped a long arm around her shoulders and pulled her in to him, resting his cheek on top of her head. "If you're lucky enough to have friends."

"This Donna sounds like quite a woman," Sarah said.

He grinned crookedly. "She was. I quite liked her. Once she stopped hitting me."

"I'm surprised you didn't invite her to travel with you."

His face fell. "I did. She turned me down."

"Oh." Sarah looked away. "I'm sorry."

"She's not the first," the Doctor said, looking at her pointedly.
