Daddy?
Taurus Bulba swung his buzz saw blade hands at Darkwing duck. Darkwing gasped and dodged every swinging blade; but just barely. Bulba extended his red arms like metallic snakes; he spiraled them into the air and swung them around like whips. The masked mallard evaded every swipe Bulba swung at him. No matter how fast or how close the blades approached Darkwing's feathery form, the masked hero dodged every attack by the skin of his teeth. Bulba quickly transformed his buzz saw hands into large axes and continued to wildly swing them towards Darkwing. However, every swipe and slash directed at Darkwing failed to land a hit and this only further enraged Taurus Bulba.
Darkwing collapsed onto one knee from exhaustion, breathing heavily and sweating from the sides of his purple mask. Bulba took Darkwing's resting period as the perfect attack opportunity. Taurus Bulba raised his hands towards the sky and transformed the axes into massive tombstone grey hammers. Bulba slammed the hammers down into the ground, the shock force of the crashing hammers catapulted Darkwing duck into the air like bouncing from a trampoline. Darkwing screamed and flailed his arms and legs in the air, his eyes bulging at the realization he was completely helpless in midair. Taurus Bulba transformed his hand hammers into cannons and opened up dozens of compartments over his cyborg body, each one housing a laser gun or missile barrage.
Dozens of missiles, lasers and bullets swarmed from Bulba's body and headed directly towards the still falling Darkwing duck. Darkwing grabbed his gas gun from his pocket and screamed; Darkwing pulled the trigger so many times he lost count. A swarm of gas gun pellets collided with Bulba's bombs and bullets; creating a huge explosive cloud that engulfed the skies and Darkwing's body. Bulba tried to scan the cloud for Darkwing's location, but thanks to the damage he received from Darkwing's buzz saw cufflink; his cybernetic scanning eye was offline along with one of his laser horns. Taurus Bulba tightly clenched his clanking orange claws.
"Quit cowering behind your tricks and face me clown!"
The smoke from the ballistic barrage slowly began to clear away. Bulba spotted Darkwing slowly floating down to the ground, using his purple and pink colored cape as a make shift parachute. Seeing Darkwing slowly drifting in midair put a twisted smile on Bulba's mangled face. Darkwing swallowed hard and began kicking his webbed feet in an attempt to reach the ground faster. The cyborg villain aimed his left cannon arm directly at Darkwing duck.
"Your goose is finally about to be cooked duck!"
Taurus Bulba fired a massive fireball into Darkwing's parachute cape; incinerating it completely and leaving Darkwing with no means of stopping himself from dropping to the ground. Darkwing smashed into the ground back first and loudly grunted in pain. Bulba morphed his hands into twin Gatling guns and unloaded a hurricane of bullet fire at Darkwing's landing site. The twisted villain laughed a most obnoxious, wicked laugh as the countless bullet shells rained down around his feet. After what felt like an eternity of blasting bullets, Taurus Bulba lowered his Gatling gun hands and sighed heavily. Bulba peered into the smoke and dust kicked up from his Gatling attack; desperately seeking a kill confirmation on Darkwing duck.
"Perhaps I shouldn't have used that much ammunition, it's going to take me all night to find any fragments of his body after being blasted so many times. Even in death that clown is a pain in my ass."
"Funny; from this angle the only ass I see around here is you iron butt."
Bulba gasped at that voice and its location: it was coming from directly behind him! Taurus turned around and spotted Darkwing duck pointing a fully loaded gas gun at his back. Darkwing smirked and winked to Bulba. The masked mallard blasted Taurus Bulba with a red gas pellet; red smoke burst from the pellet and consumed Bulba in a blood red haze.
"Remember that smell horn head? It's that oh so handy itching powder you couldn't get enough of the last time we tangled." Darkwing spun his gas gun like a western hero and placed it back into his pocket, "Scratch one super psycho cyborg."
Darkwing's confidence was shattered when a flying mechanical claw fist came spiraling out of that red dust cloud and crunched into his purple suited stomach. Bulging eyeballs surged from Darkwing's purple mask, the stomach blow caused his beak lips to crack open and cough up mixed bits of blood and saliva. The masked hero clutched his smashed ribs with trembling arms and dropped to his knees. Taurus Bulba emerged from the red cloud, laughing and sporting several miniature fans from different compartments in his cyborg structure.
"Stupid, sad little clown," Bulba approached Darkwing and clamped his claw hands across Darkwing's throat tightly. Darkwing was yanked off his webbed feet and held tightly in Bulba's iron grip. "Did you really think I learned nothing from our previous encounters? The very first thing I did after our last fight was install filters throughout my mechanized body; specifically designed to filter out your pitiful little itching powder. Unlike you, I upgrade my arsenal with state of the art technology; rather than rely on pathetic parlor tricks and smoke bombs."
Taurus Bulba extended his arm once more and used its long reach to hurl Darkwing over his horned head like a football. Darkwing's face smashed beak first into a heap of rock and dirt, his body and eyes winced with aching pain. Bulba watched as Darkwing slowly got back to his feet, coughing and brushing dust from his body. The cyborg criminal smiled wickedly and transformed his right arm into a powerful drill. Bulba charged Darkwing with full stomping speed, aiming his drill right at Darkwing's caped back.
"Your miserable little life ends now Darkwing duck!"
SLICE!
A flash of light and gleaming cold steel temporarily blinded and stunned the cyborg super villain. Like something out of a samurai movie, Bulba's drill arm was completely severed by some sort of mysterious slash from Darkwing duck. Roars of screaming pain erupted from Bulba's howling jaws. The mechanical arm dropped from Bulba's arm like a ton of bricks, lying lifelessly next to his steel feet with wires sparking wildly from the sliced arm. Darkwing smirked and revealed a golden sword tucked firmly under his cape, his feathery fingers locked around the sword's handle and its ancient markings.
"Bet you've never seen a smoke and mirrors trick like that before, eh lefty?"
"How DARE you damage my perfect circuitry! What in blazes is that thing and where did you pick up such a rusty relic?"
"It's called a sword chips for brains and I borrowed it from my female friend with fins; Neptunia. She picked this baby up in a dump site near her ocean cave home. The sword was uncovered during one of her underwater clean up jobs, she thinks it's Atlantean or something. I figured something like this would come in handy so I asked her to lend it to me when last we met."
"BAH! You call that a sword?" Bulba growled and angrily bit his furry lip. Loud clanking and whirring sounds emanated from the sliced arm socket on Bulba's body. A massive sword burst from Bulba's arm socket and replaced his missing limb perfectly. The blade was curved, very sharp and it was lined with little jagged cuts similar to a chainsaw. Darkwing gulped heavily at sight of the twisted blade. "Let me show you a sword."
Launchpad wheezed and panted heavily, his brow becoming thick with sweat while his feet wobbled and ached. The trusty sidekick had been carrying the unconscious red head, Gosalyn, down the mountain track ever since Darkwing started the battle with Bulba. Normally Launchpad would have made it back home by now, but after his crash landing from Paddywhack and the steep climb of the mountain top; the trip down was taking longer than he expected. Gosalyn murred softly as her eyes began to slowly open from under her Quiverwing mask.
"Awe boy here we go," Launchpad sighed and tried to hurry down the mountain as fast as he could. Gosalyn woke up and shoved herself out of Launchpad's arms before he could take another step. "Well it was worth a shot."
"LAUNCHPAD HOW COULD YOU?! How could you side with dad on this; knowing what he's up against?"
"I'm sorry kiddo but DW made me promise and I agree with him on this 100%. It's way too dangerous for you to go up there."
"I'm going up there to SAVE HIM; you should be doing the exact same thing."
"Don't do this to me Gos; I made a promise to DW to take care of you and I can't let him down on this one."
"Try and stop me!"
Gosalyn kicked Launchpad in his aching, tired knees and jumped over him to scurry up the mountain. Launchpad groaned and clutched his knees in throbbing pain. Gosalyn fiercely stared up the mountain with determined masked eyes, her legs moving as quickly as they could carry her. The weary Launchpad slowly began to chase after Gosalyn in hopes of stopping her before she reached the top.
The royal rumble on the mountain top had quickly turned into an epic sword fight; the likes of which that would put any swashbuckler or swordsman to shame with the clashes and clangs of steel against steel. Darkwing duck and Taurus Bulba smashed blade against blade; again and again. Each swipe from the combatants was filled with rage, passion and determination so fierce; it was like their bodies were possessed and battling all by themselves. Darkwing screamed and swung his sword like a crazed baseball player, he slashed at every possible area on Bulba's body; desperate to land a hit. Bulba's lightning fast cyber reflexes countered every sword swipe Darkwing could throw at him. Bulba and Darkwing locked blades together; their eyes glaring at each other with unbridled fury. Darkwing drove his sword deeper into Bulba's blade; sparks began to spew out from the grinding twin blades of the sword slinging soldiers.
The two warriors broke their steely stalemate and leapt away from each other. Bulba aimed his sword arm and fired the blade at Darkwing like a missile; Darkwing dodged to the side and smashed the sword missile away like it was a Frisbee. Sizzling jet flames erupted from Bulba's metallic feet; propelling him into the sky and fizzling out once Bulba was air born. Darkwing gasped and readied his sword at his side. Bulba dropped down from the midnight sky like a falling star; a new sword appeared on Bulba's arm and was raised high above his head. Taurus Bulba landed with a thunderous thud, his sword slicing into Darkwing duck the instant his feet reached ground level. Much to Bulba's surprise, Darkwing had disappeared in a bubble of violet colored smoke. Bulba angrily looked around to see where Darkwing had disappeared to.
Darkwing appeared directly behind Bulba mirroring his attack pattern: falling from the sky with a sword held above his head. Bulba turned around just in time for Darkwing to slam his sword into the bull's sword carrying arm, the blade drilled into Bulba's bionic shoulder like a buzz saw. The slicing sword caused sparks, microchips and flailing wires to come spewing out of Bulba's ruptured robot shoulder. Bulba's screams echoed in the mountain landscape, Darkwing watched Bulba's entire arm and shoulder piece fall to the ground in a sea of oil and loose screws. Darkwing smiled confidently and raised his sword up in a celebratory fashion. The disarmed bull planted his remaining robot arm against Darkwing's chest and blasted him with a point-blank energy shot. Darkwing was the one screaming now, hurtling into the sky with a searing trail of smoke and scorched flesh following him to his crash into the ground.
Darkwing pulled his face out of the dirt once more and flipped over so he was lying on his back. The weary hero weakly looked to his sword and groaned loudly, the sword was split in half; leaving only a jagged point where the mighty sword once stood. The sword had been blown to pieces during the attack from Bulba's cannon arm. The one armed Taurus Bulba leapt into the air and crash landed his metallic feet onto Darkwing duck's legs. The crushing steel of Bulba's feet caused Darkwing to scream in agonizing pain, both of Darkwing's legs were broken and he could feel it. Bulba revealed in the ear shattering screams coming from Darkwing's lips. The masked hero's cries were so loud; they carried all the way down to young Gosalyn's ears. The red headed heroine increased her speed upon hearing the cries of pain coming from her father.
"How does it feel to have your limbs broken into a million pieces DUCK? It's only fair: you took my arm so I take your legs."
Darkwing could barely hear a word of what Bulba was saying; he was too busy trying to grab his broken legs and end the insufferable pain. The masked mallard forced himself to keep his eyes on Bulba and try and block out the pain.
This is bad; really, really, REALLY bad! I can barely feel my legs anymore and even if Bulba got off of me, I don't think I could move away fast enough to use my last resort on him. What the hell am I going to do now?!
Bulba kept his metallic feet firmly planted on Darkwing's shattered legs; he transformed his remaining arm into a massive cannon and pointed it directly at Darkwing's beak.
"Now then, let's see you dodge this one Darkwing duck."
Shit! Shit! Shiiiiiiiiit! If I can't move or counter his attack; I am one dead duck. But with my legs broken and my sword busted, I have nowhere to go and nothing to defend myself with. Well…actually…ugh…I do have one option left *gulp*. This is going to hurt like Hell but it's better than dying, that's for sure!
Taurus Bulba cocked his cannon arm and prepared to blast Darkwing's face full of fiery energy. Darkwing desperately grabbed his gas gun with one arm and jammed it into Bulba's cannon nozzle; both Bulba and Darkwing fired their blasters at the exact same time.
KABOOM!
Bulba's arm cannon exploded in a fiery bang, chunks of burnt metal scattered across the battlefield. Both combatants screamed in agonizing pain from the severe wounds they received from the explosion. Bulba's arm was completely destroyed, he stared at his armless body and stumbled over his feet in a drunken like stupor. Darkwing winced and turned his head to look at the arm he blasted Bulba's cannon with; it was burnt, sizzling and twisted; like someone had run it over with their car and then set it on fire. Slowly and painfully, Darkwing pushed himself off the ground with his one good arm and forced his shattered legs to stand his body up off the ground. Taurus Bulba also regain his stance and composure, he turned to Darkwing with a single remaining, hate mongering eye.
"This…this isn't over duck…not by a long shot."
Darkwing laughed out loud, standing on trembling knees and wobbly legs before collapsing down onto his knees. "You know something horn head? You're absolutely right."
Darkwing reached into his pocket with his one good arm and pulled out a small remote control like device; it was grey, square shaped, sported an antenna and had a large red button at its center.
"And what is that little gadget supposed to do exactly?"
"Oh this thing?" Darkwing said as he smirked proudly, "This is the thing that's going to kill you; once and for all."
"HA, HA, HA; you always were good at making me laugh clown. Do you really expect to kill me with that puny little toy?"
"I'm betting my life on it bulbsy old boy."
"You're correct on THAT much at least! But it doesn't matter even if that thing works, you'll be dead long before that device can do you any good."
"I was hoping to not use this thing; it is a last resort after all, but you've left me no choice. Now I have to use this thing."
"Go ahead and use it, you don't scare me; you never did. I told you before, I can defeat an army of you and no trick or toy you pull out will never be powerful enough to defeat the likes of me. Even in this condition, I can still kill you where you kneel duck!"
Even with this thing in my hand…Bulba is probably right. That monster has more hidden weapons than a Swiss army knife; there are probably 4 or 5 different blasters on him that could take me out with ease. Ugh…my legs are shattered, my arm is fried and I've tried every trick, weapon and surprise maneuver I can think of and then some. This is my last hope.
Darkwing aimed the remote at Bulba's menacing stare, the warriors locked eyes in a fierce staring ritual. "You really think it's wise to underestimate me a third time Taurus? You killed yourself trying to kill me and you nearly turned into a rage filled rock statue when we met on the waterfall cliff." Darkwing's finger hovered above the red button, "You sure you want me to press this button?"
"I have survived death and defeat time and time again by mere chance! You've survived only by the luck of the devil, but tonight; you meet your end at the hands of the most brilliant devil in the criminal underworld. It doesn't matter if you push that button or if I have no arms or no legs, you still die tonight. So go ahead, push that button, hit me with your best shot and when it fails and you lay beaten on the ground; blubbering like a pathetic child, you will know…that Taurus Bulba is better than you. Go ahead and press it…I DARE YOU!"
"Very well then; let's get dangerous…one…last…time."
Forgive me Gosalyn; but daddy's going to have to break his promise to you…
Darkwing pressed the button and fired a yellow energy beam from the antenna of the gray device. The yellow beam went right towards Bulba; he darted to the side and dodged the beam with ease. Taurus Bulba revealed small guns from inside his chest panels; the blasters fired and struck Darkwing duck down with several direct hits. Behind Bulba, the beam converted into a large mechanical structure; resembling a large gray gun with a control panel at its spine. The cannon like structure had 3 large green lights at its base; the cannon nozzle was comprised of: 4 crystal blue rings, a mount that resembled a large, gray thimble and a black ball with a black spike going through its center.
Taurus Bulba turned his attention away from Darkwing and looked at the device. The cyborg bull gasped, "This…this is impossible. How can I be seeing this? That is the Waddlemeyer ramrod I stole and used to rob the city with years ago."
The ramrod sprang to life and aimed its cannon at the sky, unleashing a powerful and colorful energy beam that pierced the dark sky and extended deep into outer space. Bulba was shocked and confused by the ramrod's sudden reappearance. So overwhelmed with surprise, Bulba wasn't even aware Darkwing was slowly crawling on his busted legs and burnt arm towards the maniacal crook. Darkwing cringed as blood leaked from the holes in his body from Bulba's chest cannons, his one good hand clutching the broken sword handle tightly.
Darkwing crawled his way right behind Bulba's back and weakly raised his sword shard. "How's that old saying go Bulba? Third time's the charm!" The masked mallard leapt onto Bulba's back, latched his body across the back of his the neck and jammed the broken sword piece directly into his metallic chest.
Taurus Bulba roared in pain, his chest wound gushing with a morbid mixture of blood, oil and broken bits of wiring and microchips. Darkwing kept his grip on Bulba; drilling the sword deeper and deeper into Bulba's body with all his might. The cyborg bull thrashed his body from side to side, unable to remove or reach Darkwing without his cybernetic arms.
"You cowardly sack of FILTH! When I get a hold of you, I'm going to turn you into deep fried pillow stuffing."
"What's the matter Bulba, I thought you said you'd never fall for my tricks again. Figured you would have learned from your mistakes by now."
Refusing to answer Darkwing's mockery, Bulba's attention briefly returned to the ramrod continuously firing its energy beam into the night sky. Taurus was confused how the device was standing there before him, and even more confusing, what was it shooting at and why?
Bulba's eyes returned to Darkwing duck. "That IS the Waddlemeyer ramrod isn't it? How is this possible? The ramrod was completely destroyed in the explosion that nearly killed both of us several years ago."
"Correction; it DID kill you years ago but that's beside the point. After I recovered from our first encounter, I was contacted by S.H.U.S.H to be hired on as a freelance agent. However, several members were skeptical about letting a masked vigilante join their ranks so I offered them the ramrod as a bargaining chip. Ever since I handed S.H.U.S.H the blueprints for the ramrod, their brainiac branch have been dying to reconstruct the gravity defying device. Luckily they managed to finish it AND the custom teleporter device I asked for in time before our fight."
"That still doesn't explain why you'd waste such a glorious machine as an oversized distraction ploy. All those years of toiling and tinkering, wasted to have it fire pointlessly into the sky."
"Ha, you're dumber than you look freak face. I never said I was going to be using the ramrod against you; I had another target in mind."
Bulba was confused by Darkwing's statement. The ramrod energy beam latched onto a glowing object that was hurdling through space, the force of the beam dragged the object down towards the direction of the ramrod device. A glowing shower of light began to slowly dawn over the battle site between Darkwing and Bulba. The armless villain blinked curiously at the light forming around their location, he looked up to the sky and gasped in utter horror.
"What the hell is going on here? There's some giant ball of light and fire in the sky…and it's heading right for us!"
Darkwing laughed and edged his face closer to Bulba's. "Oh yeah, I forgot to mention; before I came up here to fight you; I also asked the brain boys at S.H.U.S.H to custom build the ramrod's ray in reverse. Now instead of being an anti-gravity beam; it's a tractor beam and it's pulling Horris's comet right down onto our heads in a matter of minutes."
"Are you INSANE?! The comet will obliterate this mountain top and everything and everyone on it; including us!"
"I know; sucks big time doesn't it? The last thing I'm going to see is your butt ugly mug; not exactly the grand finale I had in mind for Darkwing duck."
"You can't be serious, you'll be killed too!"
"Heh not bad for a costumed clown, eh Bulbsy?"
Panic and fear crawled across Bulba's face like an infectious virus, he felt the ground tremble and rumble under his metallic feet. Taurus Bulba activated jets within his feet and attempted to fly away from this place as quickly as possible. Darkwing spotted Bulba trying to flee, he twisted the sword into Bulba's chest piece deeper and harder; forcing Bulba's jets to sputter and fail due to the pressure of the blade.
"That wretched duck, I can't blast off with him on my back; I've suffered too much damage and my body cannot handle the extra weight" Bulba thought to himself.
"You're not getting out of this that easy Taurus. Our paths came together because of this machine; so it's only fitting that both our journeys come to an end because of this machine as well."
"If you don't let me go you're going to die and leave Gosalyn all alone. Is that what you want, to abandon your daughter?"
"I swore that I would protect my daughter from monsters like you the day I adopted her. There's nothing that would make me happier then to spend every day of my life watching her grow up into a beautiful young woman, but as long as you exist; that will never happen. As I told you before, I'm taking you down Bulba; even if that means I go with you!"
"You can't do this, you're not a murderer; don't soil your reputation with my blood."
"I didn't know you cared so much Humpty Dumpty, but it sounds more like you're just scared because you didn't leave anyone left alive to put you back together again this time. Did you already forget you wiped out F.O.W.L, the same people who gave you this new life in the first place?"
The fear and aggravation boiled on Bulba's scarred face, his feet jets tried to blast off again but once again failed to leave the ground successfully. The ground became bright as day, Horris's comet was mere seconds away from crashing onto the mountain top and annihilating the ramrod, Bulba and Darkwing. Taurus Bulba screamed and thrashed in a desperate and futile attempt to leave before the comet crashed down. Darkwing clutched Bulba tightly, shoved the blade deeper and closed his eyes. Tears dropped from Darkwing's purple masked eyes.
I love you Gosalyn…be happy…
KABOOM!
The explosion rumbled the mountain like it was a volcano erupting. Gosalyn gasped and wobbled on her feet, trying to maintain her balance from the mountain's aftershock waves. The girl's green eyes shined with glowing embers emanating from the cataclysmic explosion of fire and light. Everyone in St. Canard could see the flashing light of Horris's comet crashing into the mountain, even Megavolt in the city jail. Gosalyn steadied herself and sighed heavily.
"Whoa that was sure some explosion. I thought I saw something shoot into the sky and bring something down; looked like a fireball or a spaceship or something."
The young red head continued scurrying up the mountain side, desperate to reach the top before Launchpad inevitably caught up with her. Gosalyn suddenly stopped as she thought she heard a voice call her name.
"Was that…was that my dad?"
Gosalyn stood there in her silent confusion, shimmering green eyes and fiery red locks twinkling in the raining embers of the crashing comet's explosion. The girl looked upwards and spotted a falling object that was differently colored from the falling fiery sparks.
It was a burnt mask…a purple burnt mask.
Gosalyn's green eyes swelled up with dribbling tears, her white cheeks became damp with falling drops. The purple eye mask floated like a plastic wrapper in the wind; falling lifelessly right onto her booted feet. Gosalyn felt her voice shrink and her heart stop, she bent down and picked up the mask with trembling hands. The purple mask sat in her hands as tear drops softly splash near the singed markings.
Gosalyn looked upwards and clutched the mask in her hands, eyes brimming with tears, "DADDY!?"
The girl's cry went unanswered, echoing across the mountain side without a single soul in sight. Gosalyn collapsed to her knees and sobbed…alone.
10 years later…
It's been 10…long…lonely years since DW died fighting Taurus Bulba at the top of Saint Canard Mountain. Looking back on it now; it's funny to think so many people in the city that hated and disrespected Drake had no idea he gave his life to protect those same people. Maybe funny isn't the right word…maybe sad is the right one. Once all the villains heard that both DW and Bulba were dead, they all came back; but luckily the remaining Justice Ducks stepped up their game and helped managed the crime wave. I even fixed the Thunder quack and helped out too…heh…when I wasn't crashing into them that is.
Morgana and Gos were both devastated, naturally, but Gosalyn took it harder then all of us combined. There were years where she cried herself to sleep and woke up wondering where Drake was. I tried to raise a good life for her; even had Morgana move in and help out like the mother she would have been. Morgana even changed her last name to Mallard, wedding or no wedding. But I can tell Gos is getting better…just not in the safest way. I've heard rumors in the news and tabloids that a figure closely resembling "Darkwing duck" has been seen fighting the likes of Megavolt and Bushroot. No matter how many times I asked her if it was her dressing up in one of DW's costumes, you know; modifying one and trying to preserve DW's legacy. But she always acted like she had no idea what I was talking about. She really is a great kid; and hey, she finally cleaned her room up!
Gos has been moving on through school, her grades have never been better and Honker…heh…well let's just say those two have been awfully close. She's been careful though, never moving too fast and my little buddy Honk man is being the perfect gentlemen like I always knew he was. Sadly, I haven't heard anything from S.H.U.S.H since the night DW died. I've written letters, sent e-mails, I even tried skywriting a message to get their attention but they never responded. Funny thing though, the bills have been paid on time every time by an anonymous benefactor. Every time I try to trace who has been taking care of our financial needs, I've always end up at a dead end.
Maybe S.H.U.S.H set us up for life out of respect for DW and all his services to the agency. Can't imagine why they didn't have any kind of proper funeral service for Drake though, it's weird; we didn't even find any bodies at the battle site; just smashed up metal chunks and some tattered bits of DW's clothing. We looked all over the place where the comet crashed, spent night after night but we never found any bodies or pieces or anything to confirm what really happened. Sometimes when it's late at night...sigh…I like to think S.H.U.S.H has DW somewhere, and all this time they've been quietly fixing him up and bringing him back to good health. I like to think the reason we didn't find any body parts or have a funeral was because…I…as hopeless as it sounds…I feel DW is still alive out there…somewhere.
I really want to tell Gosalyn, I really, really do. But how can I do that without getting her hopes up? Besides, what would I tell her? I FEEL he's okay but I can't prove anything or show her and Morgana and everyone else some kind of hope he's alive somewhere? We've all been through a lot and were still going through it…I suspect we always will. DW is the bravest, craziest, more daring super hero I have ever had the pleasure of working with…and I worked with Gizmo duck! He never needed powers to be super, he was always super. I knew it; Morgana knew it and one very special little girl has always known it. This city took you for granted Drake, they took Darkwing duck for granted every time you saved the day and got brushed off.
Your ego made it hard to let people love you but we always knew you were a champion; even if this city was too snobbish to see it. I've kept your daughter safe and sound as best I could DW, but she needs her father…not a sidekick stand in father. No matter how many times I wake up in the morning…I never forget how much I wish the terror that flaps in the night could come flapping in one…more…time.
Launchpad's thoughts stirred from his journal as he saw an 18 year old, beautiful Gosalyn Mallard come bolting down the stairs from her bedroom. Launchpad winced as he turned, his back wasn't what it used to be but he still kept up with the fiery red head.
"Bye Launchpad, I'm going to school now; Honker's gonna drive me today."
"Just don't be late for class because of that statue protest thing; you don't want to miss any more classes."
Gosalyn rolled her eyes as she stuffed her face with a quick breakfast and headed for the front door.
"I told you dad DESERVES a statue in his name. If the city isn't going to give him one, I'm going to protest with as many people as I can until they wake up and see the hero I always saw in him."
Launchpad sighed and went back to his journals.
"Won't get any arguments from me on that part kiddo; just be safe."
"Okay, see you and mom once she gets back from work."
Gosalyn turned to open the front door with one hand, an open can of Cuckoo cola in the other. The door suddenly opened from the outside. Gosalyn's bright green eyes widened, a blinding surge of fresh daylight came pouring in and caused her eyes to wince slightly.
"I always knew you'd grow up to be beautiful Gos, but I had no idea you'd be this pretty."
Gosalyn dropped her can of soda in shock, the soda spilled over her sneakers with the bubbles loudly fizzing.
"Daddy?"
Darkwing duck stood before Gosalyn, on crutches, scarred in some areas and walking with a slight limp…but it was him.
"Hey kiddo…daddy's home."
Gosalyn's eyes welled up with tears; she hugged her father tight and cried into his purple vest. Darkwing smiled softly and hugged her for the first time in years.
"I promised I would never leave you; and now I never will again. I love you my daughter."
"I love you too dad."
THE END!
