Chapter 13
Assistant Director Walter Skinner's Office
Monday

Scully and Mulder stood in the elevator together trying to keep straight faces, but both had small smiles that kept creeping. The others around them in the elevator kept giving awkward glances to them, confused. They finally hit the floor they needed and walked off. Assistant Director's secretary glanced up to them confused and surprised.

"Agents Mulder and Scully," The secretary said, "Assistant Director isn't expecting you…can I help you?"

"It's all good," Mulder replied.

Mulder headed for the door anyways and Scully followed.

"Agents," The secretary growled, "You know he doesn't like unexpected visits like this…agents!"

They opened the door anyways. Skinner lifted his bald head up and looked over to the door confused. The secretary barged through Mulder and pushed his left arm out of the way. She shook his head with her mouth open.

"Sir, Sorry—"

"It's fine," Skinner interrupted, "Agents…"

The secretary backed out and shut the door behind her. Mulder smirked back at the secretary. Mulder looked back to Skinner who raised his eyebrows to them. He clasped his hands together.

"Well?" He inquired, "What did you two do this time?"

"We're engaged," Scully announced strictly as possible.

Skinner froze. He stared at Mulder who was smiling, grinning ear to ear. Skinner looked over to Scully.

"I…what?" Skinner asked.

Skinner was dumbfounded and in shock to hear Scully say they were engaged. Scully looked down clasping her hands together against her legs.

"We're engaged," Mulder repeated, "We're going to get married."

Skinner laughed.

"Now that's an X-File," He said, "Go on and get to work, I expect reports on my desk at five today…thanks for the laugh, I needed it."

Scully looked to Mulder in slight amusement. She walked over to him and put her left hand out revealing the ring now.

"We're not joking, Sir," Scully gulped, "We're serious as a heart attack."

Skinner stared at the rock on her finger. He looked up to her and grabbed her small hand and pulled it closer to get a better look. Skinner looked over to Mulder.

"Seriously?" Skinner asked.

Mulder raised his eyebrows.

"Ah, yeah boss, that's not a plastic ring, it's very real and cost me a bundle, but it was worth it," Mulder smiled.

Skinner looked between the two and let go of her hand. She took her hand back and gave Skinner a quizzical look.

"You do realize you two may not be able to work together if you go through with this right? Policy," Skinner said.

They froze and looked to each other and looked over to Skinner. Not another. Bill first, and now Skinner?

To be continued…
