Isabella Swan...

Even the thought of her name sent shivers down my spine. That first time I had seen her sitting in the cafeteria – sitting with Jessica and Mike Newton of all people! I was intrigued by her. I had listened in on every conversation she had had that day from teachers to pupils. Nothing she said helped me solve the riddle she had left me.

Isabella Cullen...

That had quite a nice ring to it.

Bella Cullen.

Oh, shut up Edward. Don't even think such stupid things like that. Like she'd ever go out with you! She probably like some like Tyler or Mike Newton. Mike had been getting on my nerves today, following her around like a lovestruck Labrador. Grr...

"Oh Edward, you're so in love."

I turned to look at Alice who was grinning from ear to ear.

"What?!" I snapped. Alice just laughed.

"I can tell..." She said, "It's in your eyes! See you at the car..." Alice waltzed off.

Love?

As I walked to the car I bumped into Emmett. Bella walked past us and glanced at me. I stared at her, stunned by her natural beauty. She turned red and hid her face.

"Jeez man..." I heard Emmett laugh. I spun to face him.

"What now?!"

"You're so into that new chick Eddie... It's unreal!" Emmett laughed again. I punched him on the arm then shoved him away with all my might. He landed on his ass in a puddle. Oh how I laughed!

The next day, it had been snowing over night and there was ice on the roads. I stayed in the car for a few minutes after we had arrived at the school, listening to my CDs. I got out when I saw Bella's Chevy drive past. I wanted to talk to her, to try and work the maze to her heart...

Leaning against the back door I watched her examine her back wheels with fascination. Then I heard an odd high pitched sound.

Tyler's car was sliding towards Bella, who hadn't yet noticed. Tyler's face was a picture of pure fear and it was obvious he couldn't control it. My angel was in danger and I had to protect her.

Now was a good a time as any to put my vampire powers to good use.

I ran quickly and shoved myself in between Bella and Tyler's car, with Bella safely in my arms. Tyler's car made a satisfying crunch as it moulded itself around my shoulders. I looked down at Bella, her eyes watching mine carefully. I exhaled, relieved that she was safe.

"Bella are you all right?" I asked, frantically. She blinked a few times.

"I'm fine.." Bella said, trying to prise herself from my arms. I held her closer. Held my angel closer to me... I may not get another chance.

I examined every inch of her... Her perfect figure, her shiny hair and deep brown eyes. Her rosy lips and cheeks that flamed whenever she was embarrassed. I smiled at my fallen angel and she smiled back.

Alice was right. I was in love...
