Disclaimer: No, I still don't own the copyrights to Advance Wars.

Author's Note: Okay, so… Eagle/Sami is a canon pairing that I actually like, despite how it is shoved down your throat all three games. Also, this is quite drabble-ish and makes reference to the conversation you get if you take them both into the last battle.

Promise

"There was a call from Eagle while you were with the recruits—he wants you to stop by the HQ later."

Max's words echoed through Sami's head as she steered the T-copter. A soldier had volunteered to fly her to Green Earth's Macro Land HQ, but Sami had insisted on going herself… She needed the practice anyway, and the silence made it easy to think.

It had been nearly six months since the Omega Land incident, and the Orange Star officer hadn't seen Eagle once since then. She still remembered what he'd started to say during their battle against Von Bolt, however, even if she'd quickly cut him off.

She only hoped he remembered; but then again, Eagle never did anything without a reason, so he had to have something important to say to her.

Eventually, Sami carefully landed the T-Copter in front of the familiar HQ—she'd visited it a couple of times after the Macro Land war, similarly for seeing Eagle. As she stepped out of the transport vehicle, Sami was grateful that she still knew her way around the building. She nodded to the guards at the entrance (they knew her from previous visits, after all) and started walking down the winding hallways.

Eagle's office was, of course, at the very back end of the HQ. Not that Sami minded the walk, as she was used to far longer ones, but it still was a bit inconvenient.

"Knock, knock."

Sami gave a small grin as she called out and walked into the organized room. Eagle looked up from his desk, setting his green-inked pen down on the small stack of papers he was signing—no doubt most of them dealt with Green Earth's air force.

"Hello, Sami. You're early, as expected."

The redhead snorted. "Of course I am! And not to sound rude, but…"

"You want to know why I called you here."

"Right."

Eagle turned his chair to the side, his voice as calm as usual as he opened a desk drawer. "You remember the victory in Omega Land, yes? Of course you do. And do you remember what I was about to say to you before the last battle? But you cut me off."

"Eagle…" Sami groaned. She'd been hoping that he wouldn't harp on that… "Come on! It was just… I thought you'd jinx everything if you said something important before that fight."

"You don't even know what I was going to say."

Eagle was still searching through his desk, so fortunately he didn't see Sami give an uncharacteristic pout. True, she hadn't given much thought to his words at the time, but now she had a rather nagging feeling that she did indeed know how he was going to finish off his old statement.

"Well…"

Eagle finally turned back towards her, extending a clenched fist. "Well, I'd like to follow up that promise."

He barely twitched his wrist and sent a small object soaring towards her. Sami adeptly caught it, and her eyes widened as it landed in her hand. A small, simple golden band with a green gemstone was sitting in her palm.

An engagement ring.

"Ea-Eagle, you jerk! If you'd told me back then that you were talking about this, I wouldn't have cut you off!" she reprimanded, hoping she didn't come off as embarrassed.

The blue-haired man smirked. "I take it that's a yes, then?"

Sami slowly grinned back, raising her hand and slipping the ring onto her finger. "Yes. It is."
