In all actuality, saving the world wasn't the real reason.
Neither was fixing the future he lived in, the one that left her the way he had.
Rather, it was to save her.
Mom always knew the right twist of the tongue, how to use the precise words and gestures.
Some times, he doubts that she really can love anything other than the power she wields on others with just her words, the way she knows the weakness and how to twist twist twist it without breaking it.
It cuts deep enough—too deep, perhaps—more than he'd like it to.
There isn't a moment he's wanted to kill Sylar more than now—for touching her, for making him feel so insignificant, like a failure, for that look he left in her eyes—as he stands behind the glass, facing his mother. He can hear him breath—slow, rhythmic, like he's dreaming.
Time is skewed, it's gone off center due to the path he's set forth, and he watches the mess unfold in the same way one would watch a butterfly unfold it's wings and fly.
He wanted to save her, you know.
From what she became, from what would happen to her, from everything.
He wanted to keep her safe.
note:
1. spoilers for 3:01 ("the second coming") through 3:02 ("the butterfly affect").
2. first time writing peter (so, of course, this is a first for writing future!peter as well). constructive criticism would be appreciated.
