I wrote this for Valentine's Day in eighth grade for my English class. Jack reflecting on how he fell in love with Elizabeth Swann.

The day I met you,
I fell in love.
Your skin soft and creamy, smooth to my fingers,
Your caramel-colored eyes so alive and vibrant.
I wanted to hold you in my arms always,
To let your feathery hair brush against my cheek,
To close my eyes and know this isn't a dream.

I'd give up women for you.
I'd give up the Pearl for you.
I'd give up piracy for you.
I'd give up life itself for you.
I'd give up rum for you, or at least I'd try.

But then I remember
That you love another man
And that thought breaks my heart.
All I have is memories,
Burned into my skull like the brand on my wrist,
Of us together on that godforsaken island
Dancing in the firelight.

Why is it that the only girl I've ever loved
Is in love with someone else,
Who's heart belongs to another,
Who can never be mine?
Maybe I was never meant to fall in love.
It would explain my bad luck with women.
Oh well.
At least I still have the sea.
