There were too many cop cars and too many ambulances in front of the retirement home. Lilly couldn't stop worrying, couldn't stop wondering why she couldn't see Scotty standing with the rest of the team. She hurried through the security line, showing her badge and ran to the door, but Nick stopped her.

"The old guy totally lost it. He's holding three people hostage."

"Scotty?" Lilly breathed out, afraid to hear the answer but already knowing in her heart that Scotty was inside, that he needed her.

"He's in there. Apparently, Mr Bores has faked his entire sicknessā€¦he's old, yes, but he doesn't have Parkinson, and he has all of his memories. It was only a game he played. He he had two guns with him in the room. He took a nurse hostage. He started shooting in the hallway, injuring one doctor and one patient. We got most of the people out, the ones that can move." He paused. "He asked for you and Scotty."

"Why did he go alone?" Lilly screamed and then pushed Nick. "I need to go. I need to make sure he's okay."

Lilly felt her entire body shiver with adrenaline and with fear. She remembered oh too well when she was the one who needed Scotty's help, when she was the one who called and said "hey".

She breathed in deeply and closed her eyes for a second.

"Are you ok?" Nick asked.

"I need to get in," she answered, opening her eyes, focusing on what was at stakes and her detective training. "He wants to talk to me, he probably wants to taunt me. We only will get the answers from him if I'm there."

Nick's radio beeped. "Shit, Julie's in there too."

"That's why he flipped. That's why he's now revealing who he truly is because he doesn't want to hide to Julie. He wants her to know what he's done, he wants to feel all powerful again."

Lil's cell phone rang. "It's Scotty," she said. "What's going on?"

Bores' voice boomed through. "I know you were expecting lover boy. Sorry to disappoint, little girl. I want you to come inside. I'll release the nurse if you come inside and then I have a story to tell Julie. I want her to know about her true family."

"Let me see what I can do."

"I'll give you five minutes. Otherwise, that boyfriend of yours might bleed out."

Lilly's heart stopped. "Bleed out?" She repeated and her voice sounded hollow to her ears.

"We had a little incident. He tried to play the hero and I had to stop him. I'm the hero of my own story, thank you very much."

"If he dies," Lilly breathed out.

"If he dies, we both will have lost someone we love. Maybe then you will finally understand me. No one understands me."

"I'll be coming but I need you to release the nurse and anyone else that might be in the vicinity."

"Only old people who can't really move or talk."

"Anyone who can walk, you need to let go. Otherwise I'm not coming and we both know you want me to hear your little story."

"You're feisty, like my birdie, like my Sue. She was my one and only you know."

"You need to let me talk to Scotty. I need to hear him and Julie tell me they're fine."

"You have my word they're still breathing. You have five minutes to decide, pretty girl. Five minutes." He hung up.

"Who's responsible?" She asked Nick. "Who from the squad team is responsible?"

"Delaney," he replied.

Another shot came from inside, people screamed, the camera team turned frantic, asking questions, trying to get the best view of the drama unfolding in front of them. Lilly rushed to Delaney. "I had him on the phone. He wants me inside. If I go inside, he'll let the nurse go. We have an officer injured and I'm your best bet."

"You are not going in. This is not your place."

"Listen to me," Lilly planted herself firmly in front of the tall brunette. "My partner is inside of this place. He's bleeding. You have no connection to the guy who's holding the guns. I do. He talked to me, he wants me to go inside. We're on the same side here."

"We got the parameters covered, we're almost ready to get in."

"If you get in, you will get all those people killed. All that for what? So you can try to get camera time?"

"Do not overstep your boundaries."

Lilly felt someone brush past her and relief washed through her as Jeffries took Delaney aside. She overheard him saying that Lilly was their best bet and after what seemed like forever but was only two minutes, she got the green light.

Jeffries placed his hands on her shoulder. "You listen to me, you are extremely careful out there. I'm only allowing this because I know you can do this. You need to make him talk, you need to make him feel safe. He has nothing to lose." He handed her the vest. "Now, suit up. They will get in. Make sure you're all still alive when they do. Be careful."

She stepped inside.
