The Last Time

A/N: Regulus's last moments...Just felt like writing something random...Leave a review if you like!
The rain lashed the jagged and crevice-filled mountainside. The lake seemed to come alive as the rain drops pummelled into the dark, murky waters. A tiny boat glided silently towards the bank, the ripples caused by it going unnoticed, even as the lake continued to churn. Fog, thick and grey, swirled around the lake, seemingly impenetrable.
Yet, the little boat glided on, unaided by wind or oar. The lone passenger turned back and tried to wave the fog away, so as to see what he'd left behind. But the fog lay thick and heavy, like noxious fumes pressing down upon his tiny body, suffocating him. The boat touched the destined bank and the passenger disappeared into the darkness, even as the last echo of his scream faded away.
Master...I am so sorry...Forgive me...master...
But the boy on the island heard neither the plea nor the rain. All he heard was the gentle disturbance of rippling water as he stepped into the lake. He was shaking from the cold fear running through his bones. He stared, his eyes wide with horror as he saw them rise out of the water. Pale haunted faces, their eyes unseeing, hands unfeeling. They loped towards him, hands outstretched. They reached out to him. He did not resist, even as he was dragged into the black depths of the lake. He felt the cold water rise beyond his head. Felt the grip of the hands tighten. He closed his eyes.
A small boy was running as fast as his little feet could carry him. He bumped into several people in his effort to reach his destination. The little boy looked up and saw the smiling face of the boy running in front of him.
"Hurry up, Reg! We'll miss the train!" said the older of the two.
"I'm coming! Wait up!"
The older boy got onto the train, even as it started moving.
"Come on, Reg! Give me your hand!"
The train was gathering speed; the platform going by in a blur. The small boy reached out, looking quite frightened. He grasped hands with the boy in the train and was lifted off his feet into the fast moving train.
"I thought you'd leave me behind!" he panted.
"Don't be stupid! I'd never have left you!"
All the while keeping his eyes closed and his mind away from the present, he opened his mouth and felt the ice cold water rush into his lungs as he smiled for the last time.
