For phoenixrising93 over on HPFC's Drabble Request Thread. She requeted Luna, prompt "I miss you", and in a sudden bout of inspiration, I wrote this.
Mother
(But, more than anything, Luna really does miss her Mother.)
"Loony Luna!"
Luna kept her head high as she passed the group that had called out, pretending to ignore them. In her mind she could hear her mother, encouraging her- "just ignore them Luna, they're not worth it."
Sometimes, she wished that her mother was still there with her, to lend her support in person.
"Don't worry, Luna, you'll see your mother again eventually." It was her father's voice this time.
She shook her head, wondering if other people also heard voices in their heads.
Even so, she was grateful they were there.

"Loony Luna! Where's your mother, Loony, did she abandon you because you're a freak?"
Luna didn't want to stop, she really didn't- "just ignore them Luna, darling. Ignore them." She didn't want to give them the satisfaction of getting to her, but-
"Leave her alone!"
Then it doesn't matter anymore, because Ginny is there, and she is keeping the promise that she made to Luna years ago- "We're friends, see? I'll always stick up for you, and you'll stick up for me, because that's what friends do."
And now Luna has another voice in her head.

"Loony Luna!"
Luna stops, and so does the group around her- Neville stands on one side, bravely standing just ahead of her, Ginny is on the other side, eyes blazing, glaring at the unfortunate idiot who opened his mouth.
"Shut up," Luna tells the boy. Neville nods firmly and tries to look threatening. Ginny takes out her wand and points it in the boy's direction.
"You know what's coming if this continues?"
The boy squeaks and flees. Ginny, Luna and Neville laugh.

The voices have gone away now. Since Luna has made friends, she finds that her mother has gone quiet, and her father only speaks to her in person or in his occasionally letters that he sends.
Instead, she now has Ginny and Neville, who stand by her, and stand up for her, and help her along.
Even so, she does miss her mother.
"I miss you, Mama."
But she understands now that it is bad to dwell on the past. After all, it's not like she will never see her mother again, is it?
FIN.
Hope you like it, phoenixrising93!
