Here it is, the last chapter of this fic. I hope it was worth the wait. This last chapter is dedicated to EbonyRadford for returning to read and review after a two year hiatus. Thank you so much for your comments.

I cry in the middle of the night for the same damn thing.

~Kelly Clarkson, Because of You

There was little light in the halls, the overcast sky let little natural light through the grimy windows and the synthetic lights were growing dimer by the second. The metallic whirs and clicks from machinery echoed everywhere, giving him no leads as to where he could find life. "Leia?" he called tentatively, his voice booming in the empty building. Why sentries were hoarded around the building he would never know, because he had gotten in easily and there was apparently no one here. Just the place she would be. He hoped his leads were right, he and Droma had been searching for three months. Jaina would give him no help, and he still hadn't brought himself to contact his sons.

Droma was getting fed up, he knew. Droma wanted to find his clanmates, but had given up to help Han find his wife. If Leia took him back, he would give Droma his ship and let him take to the skies. He would give up his freedom forever if it meant he would get her back. He would do whatever she asked, he knew that too. He owed everything to her.

Shadows were starting to stretch across the hallway, but he thought he could hear typing in the distance. He hurried his footsteps and willed Leia to be sitting at the computer terminal. The hallway led to a staircase and he listened hard before deciding to go down. His boots made heavy thuds, drowning out the typing, as he hurried down the stairs and emerged into the new hallway. The sound was stronger. "Leia?" he called again. The sound stopped briefly, but continued. "Leia?" His voice gained confidence. This time the typing did stop.

He waited for her to emerge from the merky shadows of doorways, but there was no movement at all. He reached the first door, but it was empty. The second was closed. The third held a long desk and long abandoned chairs. "Leia?" he called again.

"In here."

The sound made him stop in his tracks, her voice made his lungs cease to move. All breath was gone from his chest. She sounded tired, worn out, but it was the most beautiful sound he had ever heard. He slowly made himself take the next few steps and turned into an open office. There she was. Shadows guarded her eyes, her hair that was usually swept back had been cropped short, and she was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. He breathed, "Leia."

Her eyes met his and he saw all the pain he'd caused etched in them. "Han."

He ran to her. He dropped to his knees in front of her. He took her hand. "I'm so sorry, Leia."

"Han." She was just staring at him, like he was the ghost of a past she never expected to see again.

"Yes Leia," he said, staring back into her eyes. "I'm sorry."

"You came back," her voice was a tangle of confusion.

He stood up and pulled her up with him. He pulled her close. "I became my father. I had to turn back into me."

If I had to say one thing about me, it's that my life has been full of surprises. Surprise of the unnatural, unnecessary, and completely out of this galaxy unexpected kind. I've learned you can't escape your past or present. Mostly, you can't escape yourself because no matter where you go, you are going to find yourself there too. I tried to run away from me since the day I left home, instead of just embracing that my father was a part of me that I was just going to have to overcome instead of avoid. Who knew a kid like me could end up winning swoop races, or rescuing spice addicts and slaves, ending up one of the best smugglers in the universe or rescue a princess. Get into the Imperial Navy and get kicked out again for rescuing a Wookiee. Who knew I'd spend most of my life rescuing other people when I really needed to rescue myself. Who knew that princess I rescued would marry me, and that sandy haired naïve boy would end up being her brother. Who knew. Who knew she'd take me back. Life has always promised to be hard.

I'm so sorry Leia.
