Chapter 3

Later that day, Kira left to check on the Freedom, while Lacus tried to calm Saito down.

"Saito, please be a good baby. Your daddy has things to do." Lacus tired but Saito made a disappointed sound and kicked with his feet.

Torii was flying around the room but Saito didn't even look at it. Mr. Pink was jumping around the bed too but the little boy wasn't paying any attention to him.

"I know you always spend a few hours with your dad every afternoon just the two of you, but you can't now. He is busy." Lacus took him in her arms and began to sing.

Saito went quiet for a few minutes but after the song ended, he began to cry again.

"We can take a walk, what about that Saito?" Lacus asked sighing and opened the door.

--

Kira was repairing something on his Gundam when he heard the unmistakable baby voice from the door. Turning around he saw Lacus trying to calm down the baby boy who was reaching toward him kicking and crying. Smiling at them, Kira stood up and walk to the door.

"I am sorry, we just took a walk. He didn't want to stay in the room and I thought if he can watch you from the door he will calm down." Lacus apologized.

"It is all right, we always spend a few hours every afternoon together, right Saito?" Kira smiled at the baby boy and took him in his arms.

"No, Kira, you have things to do, we didn't want to interrupt you, I will take him back to our room." Laces began but Kira placed a finger on her lips.

"It is fine. He can stay I am almost ready and you need some time to rest as well." Kira said kissed her on her forehead and pushed her gently out the door.

"Are you sure?" Lacus asked.

"Yes. Now go on." he said and smiled as Lacus glanced at him once more worriedly then walked away.

"Now, be a good boy and wait until I am finished here, okay?" Kira asked his son. Saito looked at him giggling and smiling now that he could be with his daddy.

Kira looked around the hangar. Cables and tools everywhere. He couldn't sat Saito on the floor it was too dangerous for such a curious baby as he was. Sighing he turned toward his Gundam.

"Okay Saito, I will sit you on the cockpit but no kicking in there, you hear me?" Kira looked in his eyes sternly and placed him in the cockpit.

Saito giggled and stayed calm looking around curiously.

"Okay, now just wait a few minutes and I will be ready." Kira said and got back to his work time to time glancing at the little boy who was watching him with big blue eyes.

Kira was deep in work when thanks to his coordinator's eyes he caught a quick movement in the cockpit.

"No!" He cried out and caught Saito's hand before he could push the red button. "No button pushing." Kira said his heart beating like crazy.

"Having some problem, Kira?" Murrue chuckled from behind.

"Beside my son almost launching?" Kira said and glanced sternly at Saito again. "No kicking and no button pushing." He repeated and went back to work.

"It is harder with your own child than it was with the orphans right?" Murrue smiled and took a step closer.

"It is not the same. There weren't any babies and yeah... it isn't the same." Kira answered not glancing up from his work.

"I saw Lacus at the cafeteria I was wondering where Saito would be." Murrue said. "Can I hold him?"

"Sure, just make sure he can see me." Kira answered.

Murrue took the baby gently in her arms. Saito turned in her arms immediately so he could see where his dad was.

"He likes to know where you are right?" Murrue asked smiling at the little boy. Her motherly instincts were awakening.

"Mmm. He makes a big fuss if someone holds him and he doesn't see Lacus or me around." Kira explained not taking his eyes off his work.

"You want to know if your loved ones are safe right Saito? Just like your dad." Murrue whispered.

"I think he just gets scared. He is all right if we leave him alone in our room with someone else as long as this someone else doesn't try to take him in his/her arms." Kira explained.

"That is strange. Do you leave him often alone?" Murrue couldn't help but ask. It was unavoidable that they have to leave Saito alone. In a battle, they would need Kira piloting Freedom and Lacus helping on the bridge.

"Not really." Kira glanced up from his work. "Don't worry Murrue, we will be fine." he added.

"I am happy to hear it." Murrue smiled and watched Saito in her arms. The little boy was watching his father curiously not taking his blue eyes off him for a second. "Can you say daddy?" Murrue asked the baby tickling him gently.

"He is only 6 months old." Kira said again. "It will take some time until he begins to talk."

"So he doesn't talk yet?"

"No. He makes this baby noises but I don't think you can say it is talking."

"He seems so much smarter than an average 6 months old baby." Murrue said frowning. "I mean he can sit, he seems to understand a lot of thing." she explained.

"I know, you are right. That is because he is a coordinator, I guess"

"Yeah..." Murrue said with narrowed eyebrows then smiled warmly at Saito.

"Finally!" Kira said wiping his forehead and turned to Murrue.

Saito's eyes brightened and he clapped in excitement. Kira ruffled his hair and when the baby boy reached for him, he took him in his arms. Kira couldn't help but smile when Saito giggled again.

"It is nice to see your old cheerful side is back. There was a time I thought we would never see it again." Murrue said watching the young boy carefully.

"Me too... If it weren't for Lacus I..." Kira went quiet remembering the dark and sad time after the first war and the long time his soul was healing during the second war. If it weren't for Lacus... so true... it was because her love that he wanted to heal, it was for her that he wanted to be able to move forward and forget about all the sadness war caused him.

He woke up from his thought when he felt someone tugging on his hair. Glancing down he saw Saito's bright blue eyes looking in his. That blue eyes were full with sympathies love and trust. 'So much like hers.' Kira thought then smiled brightly at his son. Saito smiled back and the tears vanished from his eyes.

"I thought he would begin to cry." Murrue said amused.

"Somehow he feels when we are upset or angry about something." Kira explained.

"Ms. Murrue, Kira please come to the bridge immediately."

Kira and Murrue looked up surprised to hear Lacus voice through the radio.

"What could have happened?" Murrue frowned and they hurried to the bridge.

--

"Kira won't be happy about this." Mu said wincing.

"He isn't happy about this whole situation. Nobody wants another war after all." Lacus said in her usual calm voice. Mu was heading toward the bridge when they had met. He had asked her to come along since there was a message waiting for them.

"We have to keep it in a secret that you are on this ship and we should make sure you have a bodyguard." Shin turned toward Lacus respectfully. It was strange to stay beside the famous pop star idol.

"What happened?" Murrue asked the moment she and Kira stepped on the bridge.

Shin looked at them and his eyes went impossible wide. Kira was holding a baby boy in his arms... a baby who looked exactly like he! 'It can't be... his son?!'

"We got a massage from Cagalli and Athrun. They found a spy on ORB and they could get out some information from him." Mu explained.

Kira still stood in front of the door, Saito was in his arms looking around curiously. Lacus stood across to him trying to be calm as always. She knew Kira would need her calm after he heard the news. Shin was staring at Saito without blinking.

"What information?" Kira asked. He felt his body tensing. He had a bad feeling about this.

"We were right, they have spies everywhere and they knew you and Lacus left the beach house. They don't know where you are but..." Mu began.

"But?" Murrue asked.

"But they want to find Lacus. They said the war was her fault. That she is the enemy because of her 'little army'." Mu explained.

"What?" Murrue asked.

"Her little army?" Kira looked puzzled at Mu.

"He meant you Kira." Lacus said quietly.

"Yes, you and Athrun and Waltfeld maybe Yzak... you know it must be scary for them that most of the ace pilots are loyal to her." Mu explained.

"They want to keep you two apart somehow. They figured it would be easier to kill Lacus that way." He finished.

Kira narrowed his eyes and tightened his arms around Saito. The little boy looked around and began to cry. Kira glanced down at the baby and shouted him gently while Lacus stepped beside them and wiped his tears away.

Shin's eyes began to hurt because he didn't blink for a while now. He couldn't help but ask. "You have a baby?"

Murrue tried to keep her straight face but her eyes were smiling. Mu burst out laughing. Kira looked at him uncomfortable.

"Yeah." He muttered.

"Now isn't the time for this." Murrue cleared her throat.

"Yes, sorry... I just... they keep surprising me." Shin said.

"Anyway we still know very little about this new enemy." Mu looked at them again.

"You said they don't know where we are right?" Kira asked again. Saito calmed down in the mean time and Lacus took him from his arms.

"Not yet, but once there is a fight and the Freedom shows up..." Mu answered.

"Like I said before, we just keep it in a secret that Lacus is on this ship as well and got her a bodyguard just in case." Shin said.

"If they are well informed they surely know Kira would never leave Lacus behind." Murrue shook her head.

"But they don't know about Saito right?" Lacus asked.

"No... That means they aren't that smart. We can try to keep it in a secret if there will be a battle and Freedom shows up and they don't attack the ship immediately we will know they believed Lacus isn't on the ship." Mu answered frowning.

"It is risky but we don't really have any other choice." Kira said.

"What about the bodyguard?" Shin asked. They accepted his plan and it meant a lot of to him.

"We couldn't wish for a better bodyguard than Kira, right kiddo?" Mu laughed.

Kira murmured a yes.

"Excuse me but I have to put Saito in bed now." Lacus said yawning as well. A ship wasn't the best place for a baby and she had to keep an eye on Saito all the time. It got out a lot of her as well.

"I repaired Freedom so if anything happens, let me know." Kira turned to Murrue and he left with Lacus and Saito.

Once they left Shin turned to Mu. "What did you mean when you said the ace pilots were all loyal to Lacus?"

"I thought you were busy staring at Saito and you didn't listen." Mu teased. "Anyway I meant exactly what I said."

"But I thought Kira is loyal to ORB?" Shin frowned.

"No. He is loyal to Lacus. As well as Athrun is always ending up, fighting for Lacus and her ideals in the end." Murrue explained.

"She has a big influence on Kira right?" Shin asked.

"You can say. If anything happen to Lacus, I don't think Kira would survive." Mu answered honestly.

Soooo what do you think??

Sessdogbro: Well I don't know yet (: Maybe they will meet on the PLANTS…
