Solo ran. His side ached and his stomach was rolling but he knew he couldn't stop. If he stopped the man would catch him. If the man caught him he would be beaten or killed. The small packet of rations in his tightly clenched fist was the reason for the chase. The small four-year-old had managed to sneak into the store and steal a ration pack. After days of eating out of the trash, the young child knew he had no other options.

Solo knew he couldn't keep his pace up. His legs were too short and his health was too bad. Seeing no other option the black haired child turned a corner and threw himself into a trash heap not even daring to breathe. The pounding of feet soon came up and the owner of the store swore viciously.

Thankfully the man didn't stick around long. With a parting kick to some of the trash piled in the alleyway, Solo was left alone with his stolen treasure. For a moment Solo didn't dare move, what if the man came back? Finally, the child pushed away the trash and moved deeper into the alley. It wasn't the safest place but he was able to see if anyone came by, even if he wouldn't be able to escape easily if someone did come in.

What Solo didn't expect was to be jumped from behind. With a cry Solo found himself on his front with bony elbows pressing into his back and a weight forcing him face down. "Ge' off!" Solo shouted thrashing as best he could. The weak four-year-old couldn't manage to force his attacker off completely but he did manage to roll onto his side and kick out.

His attacker yelped as Solo's bare foot made contact keeping him from grabbing at the ration pack still grasped tightly in Solo's hands.

The two children fought ont he gound. Both kicking and pulling at anything they could reach but finally Solo grabbed two handfuls of thick brown hair.

"Leggo! Leggo!" The attacker cried trying to pry open Solo's fists.

"NO!" Solo grunted yanking hashly.

Solo's attacker screamed as the black haired boy used his advantage to sit up and forced the smaller boy onto the ground. Even though he had been on the streets for what felt like forever, Solo had never won a fight before. The older kids would often use force to get anything they wanted from the smaller ones. The problem was Solo wasn't sure what to do once he had won. The older kids would normally just take what they wanted Solo was the one who had the food. His attacker didn't have a coat or shoes, and since he hadn't been stabbed the other kid didn't have a weapon either.

Solo was at a bit of a loss. "Imma leggo. You leave!"

The long haired child sniffled and nodded as best they could with their face pressed in the dirt. Solo released his grip and snatche up his ration pack from where it had fallen to the ground and scuttled away from the crying child.

Solo watched cautiously as his long haired attacker sat up, sniffling and crying. Solo scowled when he noticed his attacker didn't make a move to leave the alleyway, but instead just crawled to the opposite corned and sobbed. Still scowling Solo tore open the ration wrapped and broke off a piece and shoved it in his mouth.

The texture was dry and rough but Solo didn't care. It was the only thing he had eaten in days.

"Shut up!" Solo shouted after listening to the other boy cry for nearly ten minutes.

"'m head hurts!" The brown haired child yelled back.

"Cry baby!" Solo taunted breaking off another piece of the ration bar.

"Not a cry baby!" The other child insisted puffing up at the insult.

Solo scowled and ignored his attacker.

~Growl~

The unhappy rumble of an empty stomach broke the silence. Solo shot a look at the other boy who curled in on himself sniffling again.

Almost guiltily Solo looked at the ration bar in his hand. Alone it would last him a few days. Shared it would maybe last a day. No one had ever shared with Solo before not on the streets and not at the place he was in before, so why should he share now? Solo risked a look at the other boy sitting across from him. They appeared to be about the same age, but the boy had girly hair, and was a cry baby!

Another loud growl and a moan of pain made up his mind. Before he realzied it Solo found himself standing in front of the other boy. "Cry baby," Solo said getting the other boy's attention.

The brown haired kid looked up and blinked in confusion at the piece of the ration bar in front of his face. "Dropped it," Solo lied dropping the piece in the other boy's hand. "'wus your name?" Solo asked plopping down in front of the kid. The long haired child stuffed the food in his mouth and shrugged.

Solo took that to mean he didn't have one. Solo had been that way once. After he figured out he needed a name Solo had given himself one, but it appeared Duo didn't know he needed one yet. "'m Solo," the green eyed boy said. "Yur gunna be...Duo."
