Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto. I do own the nameless OC though... As of now... she is nameless. haha.

A/N: This is my first one shot... I guess its called? lol. I wrote it a long time ago and recently found it on a piece of paper... I transfered it to Microsoft word. I hope its to your liking. (:

She stood there, slightly swaying with the wind's gentle push along her body. Miniscule tendrils of sand wrapped themselves tenderly around her small wrists. She turned slowly to face the stranger only to see he was no stranger; she knew his face very well. She examined his marble features; his light complexion was flawless, his fiery red head of hair had grown wild like a wallflower, his symbol of love was lonely, his brow was slightly troubled, perhaps nervous at first glance, his dark raccoon like, teal eyes always had once looked tortured and hateful but now they were different, and appeared hopeful, and on his dry lips a small smile could be seen, but the girl assumed this as a mirage. The tendrils of sand soon grew to several in which they coiled around her and securely rested on the small of her back. She felt the warm sand trickle between her toes and move under her humble feet as it slid her closer to the redheaded young man known as the Demon of the Sand.

The sand had dropped the girl favorably into the lap of the Sand Demon. She squirmed a bit from shock but then settle on a position; a position in which she faced the desert devil. A tiny hesitant finger had begun to trace his jawline, press against his cold lips, smooth around heavy eyelids, stroke the red hair that had fallen on his brow, and float over his symbol of love carved upon his tainted soul. These actions nearly swept the breath from his greedy lungs but he regained his composure swiftly. His stone cold hands reached out to repeat her actions but his fingers fumbled awkwardly around her features. He pressed his nose against her and whispered something inaudible. Her mind was racing and heart was pumping blood faster than any heart could or should pump blood as she struggled to hear his words but her ears couldn't pick them up no matter how hard she tried.

Her eyes flew up to meet his but he had vanished. Scanning the horizon, her eyes searched with desperate yearning for him, but he was long gone. After several agonizingly hopeless minutes, realization struck her like a hammer to the nail and she cried out a bleat of anguish; the laughing desert had played a cruel trick on her. The girl had begun to sob loudly into the sand, her tiny fists pounding against it to feel something. Her fingers raked against the sand as it soaked up her angry tears.

Meanwhile, the Sandman watched her frantic attempts at sanity from an overbearing sand dune in which he had concealed himself within. His heart wrenched inside of him, fraught with guilt. He blamed himself for causing her distress, pursing his lips at his cruel intentions. However the Sandman hadn't meant to treat her with malice. He simply wasn't ready to tell her his truth.

A/N: I'm sorry for its shortness but I guess one shots are short? lol. I'm not sure because this is my first time writing one. There is a sequel to this and it is written in free verse poetic form. It's called "After the Mirage". I hope you guys liked this one shot. Review and tell me if you liked it or if you'd like to see more done with this. (:
