Title: Congratulations

Pairing: Could be considered Stottlymeyer/Disher

Rating: PG-13

Summary: Sometimes a slap is just a slap.

A/N: I'm not a big Stott/Randy fan, but this idea hit me, and I found it hilarious.

As Natalie waited in the Captain's office for Mr. Monk to get done going over proper desk cleaning procedures with the department's officers, she considered possible conversation topics. She was bored, and the only other person in the room had his nose in a case file. She had to come up with something at the very least interesting to grab the man's attention.

Out of blue, the assistant speaks up. "Why do men in sports always slap each other?"

Stottlymeyer looked up from the file he was reading and peered over at the woman sitting on the love seat at the other end of the office. He quirked an eyebrow. "Excuse me?"

"I'm just saying," she continued, "that men in sports certainly"-air quotes- "'congratulate' each other a lot. Why is that?"

Leland sighed and stood up. "It's just a thing," he explains, "It's just a slap." He couldn't believe Natalie was this bored. "And I'll prove it to you, too."

As if on cue, Randy walks through the door, into the office, looking quite pleased with himself. "I don't know how I did it, but I somehow managed to get my desk Monk-approved on the first try." he made a scoffing sound. "All the other detectives are still working at it."

The Captain motioned the Lieutenant closer. "Hey, Randy, come here a sec."

The younger man complied. "Yes sir?"

Stottlymeyer reached out and gave Randy's ass a firm, but gentle slap. "Congratulations, Lieutenant."

Randy's face turned three shades of red. "Um... Tha... Thank you sir..."

Natalie bit her lip to keep from laughing, but that still didn't help the snorts that escaped.

"Sir?" Randy asked, timidly, still frozen in his spot. His face was still a deep maroon, and he suddenly found his feet very interesting.

"Yes, Lieutenant?"

"Is... Is there something you need to tell me?"

"Out Randy!"

Lieutenant Disher couldn't have run any faster. As he left the office, he heard Natalie break out into a loud fit of laughter.
