Well guys and gals...after 8 years, from middle school to now a senior in college, I can say I'm finally done. Thank you to all who've stayed faithful and kept up with it, those who gushed praise and prodded me for my laziness. I truly do apologize for all the time it took to get this out. I cannot give you a timeframe when the next one will be started, but I will ensure I have a few chapters done before I post it here in order to prove I'm committed to it. i don't want to have to put y'all through such a debacle again! I hope you have enjoyed this adaptation of the second film and once again, thank you for all the views and reviews!
Epilogue
Yuki coughed nervously as the cameraman readied to deliver her report to the morning news. The rising sun lit up the domain, and what once was a fast-growing city had been reduced to a massive crater. Nothing but ash and dust, chunks of concrete and metal. In what could be described as the 'eye' of the explosion, were two interesting landmarks. One was the burnt husk of the Karyu battleship, scorched beyond black and hardly reminiscent of the glorious flying weapon that had been the icon of human victory. Across from it was a massive hole, a gaping wound in the earth. Excavation machines and crew stood at the opening and one could assume they had taken many trips deep into the abyss, searching for something. The cameraman motioned to her with his finger, indicating they were on in three…two…one…
"It has been a week since the destruction of Kumamoto. The Japanese Self Defense Force has determined the city center, as well as anything within a 10 kilometer, to be quarantined due to remaining radioactive energy. Scientists are uncertain of how long it could take to purify the area. Pre-emptive readings have shown that the nuclear residue has remained relatively contained within the city boundaries and has not drifted out towards other communities or across the ocean…"

The Griffon escape ship crashed into the lakeside, throwing sand and water into the air. The front end submerged itself in the lake, and the showers from the impact helped to put out the fires that gnawed hungrily at the engines and the wings. For a moment, nothing stirred from the ship. Suddenly, the glass window of the cockpit shot out of the water and landed some yards away. The pilot burst to the surface, sucking in mouthfuls of air. The exhausted and bruised pilot tossed aside the helmet atop their head to reveal a worn and bloodied woman, who swam to the sandy shores and collapsed, rolling over onto her back. The nametag upon her breast read: Kiriko Tsujimori.
Two figures adorned in the same attire as she burst through the foliage and rushed to her side. They removed their helmets, revealing Hajime and Yoshino, both smiling with tears in their eyes. The corners of Kiriko's mouth curved upwards, and she gave them a thumbs-up.
"The flying prehistoric creatures Rodan and Megaguirus were both slain on the field of battle. It is to be believed Rodan was the last of his kind. Mount Aso, the source of both the monsters, has been investigated and cleansed by the JSDF…"
Scientists chattered to each other amidst the bowels of the cave system. They scurried about like the insects who once occupied the caverns, taking bio-samples and recovering tissue from the egg shells and corpses that were strewn around. Kamura and Shinoda gazed out at the queen's chamber, a giant cocoon within the earth, yet if one were to look up, the sunlight would brighten up the environment.
"Crazy to think this is all over, huh Yuji?" The aviator cast a glance towards his friend, who frowned at the question, deep in thought.
"No…I don't think this is even close to being over. Not when there could be more buried out there…not when he's still alive."
"The Karyu has been all but destroyed…but the JSDF and the CCI hope to salvage its armor and weaponry in order to aid in the creation of a future anti-kaiju weapon. The crew of the Karyu have all been given medals in honor of their bravery and courage in the fight against monsters…"
Shiro Miyasaka, a tad bruised up still from his hellish adventure in Kumamoto, sipped noisily from his cup of coffee as he eyed up the shipments of salvage being drove in atop rigs while the rumble of choppers carrying more pieces rang in his ear. The head of CCI had been through quite the ordeal. His greed had cost him the samples, and they were God knows where now. The Karyu was gone but… he had survived. And so had his friends and the pilots of the battleship. He had lived to rebuild – and he indeed had already begun to do so. Though the secret of the samples must remain with him, he gladly began outlining the next step in anti-kaiju vehicles – Project Éclair.
"Unfortunately…there has been no absolute proof that Godzilla was slain. No body has been found and the tunnel into the earth suggests that he escaped the explosion. The military has been conducting searches down into the earth but… no signs of anything. For now, we can only assume the monster has retreated to rest and recover. We cannot say when he will return."
His claws tore into the rock as he hauled himself further and further away from the battlefield. His reptilian body was scarred beyond recognition – it would take a very long time to recover from these wounds. Everything seemed to burn and he was in constant agony. The backlash from the beamfire had beaten him bloody and seared his flesh. His only thought was to retreat, to find the place where he was most comfortable…
With one final gash from his talons and a shove from his bulk, he rended the final barrier between him and the ocean. Salt water flooded into his tunnel and he rumbled as the cool water washed over his singed hide. Whilst the humans searched for him miles away, he would make his escape and find shelter and solitude. It was time for him to sleep until he needed to reawaken.
"That was pretty good, Yuki!" Robert gave her the thumbs-up, grinning from ear-to-ear. The photographer turned reporter gave him a smile in return, and walked over to him after the cameraman gave her the 'OK'.
"Thank you. I'm not typically the one being on the other side of a camera!"
"You looked great… and did even better. So listen, I was thinking…you and I could go out to eat sometime?" He chuckled, rubbing the back of his head nervously awaiting a response.
"That'd be lovely, I know just the place –"
"Oh, I'd love to come," piped up Io, who'd tagged along to watch the interview in person.
"Do we HAVE to bring you everywhere," groaned Robert.
"Of course. I have to keep you two out of trouble," responded Io, sticking out her tongue at Robert while Yuki giggled. The trio walked to the beat up, yet still kicking GPN van. With the threat ended, things couldn't get much better.
The surge of energy caused the beast to stir from its tomb, deep within the mountain. It had been sealed away for far too long… such power had not been felt in eons. It triggered lust in the creature… a hunger needed to be satiated. Hidden beneath rock and obsidian, under a surface of ice-like material, the beast had slumbered. Resting. Waiting. Now it had been stirred… a relic from an ancient time. An ancient evil. Three serpentine necks, decorated with scales of gold, slowly slithered up from the dark. Six eyes slowly opened, nothing but gems of scarlet.
The beast cackled.

(Yes, I know I did not reveal the aftermath of a certain plot point. That'll be saved for a future story, don't worry.)
