He's Grown Up Just Like Me

A songfic by me. The song is " Cats in the Cradle" by Harry Chapin.

Story is expressed in John's point of view.

Verse is only written once in story.

Disclaimer : I do not own the song or any characters in this fic.

A child arrived just the other day.

He came to the world in a usual way.

But there were planes to catch and bills to pay.

He learned to walk while I was away.

Torrie just had a baby the other day and I wasn't there to see it happen. I was too busy flying to WWE shows across the country.

And he was talking before I knew it and as he grew,

He'd say," I'm gonna be like you dad."

" You know I'm gonna be like you."

When I was in a WWE show, I called up Torrie and asked how she and our son were doing. Torrie handed the phone over to my son and let him talk to me. I started tearing up when I realized I wasn't able to see my son when he first learned how to walk and first learned how to talk. As my son would say daddy into the phone, I just stood there looking at a picture of my boy and wished I was there with Torrie and our son.

And the cats in the cradle and the silver spoon,

Little boy blue and the man in the moon.

" When you coming home dad?'' " I don't know when,

But we'll get together then

You know we'll have a good time then.

My son asked me when I was going to come back from work. I didn't know when but promised him that he will see me soon and when we do see eachother, it will be a great time.

My son turned ten just the other day,

He said," Thanks for the ball, dad, come on let's play.

Can you teach me to throw?" I said, " Not today,

I got a lot to do.'' He said," That's okay."

I finally got a chance to see my son but only for an hour to celebrate his birthday. I gave my son a baseball and my son asked if I can play with him. I said that I couldn't because I had to go back to work.

And he walked away, but his smile never dimmed,

Said, " I'm gonna be like him, yeah.

You know I'm gonna be like him."

My son walked away and kept thinking that he wanted to be exactly like me. The WWE superstar. I then picked up my luggage and saw Torrie Wilson in front of me. I gave her a kiss and promised," I'll be back soon and stay here." Torrie just stared at me and said," Don't come too late."

Well, he came home from college just the other day,

So much like a man I just had to say,

" Son, I'm proud of you. Can we sit for a while?"

He shook his head, and he said with a smile,

" What I'd really like, dad, is to borrow the car keys.

See you later. Can I have them please?"

I couldn't believe that my son has grown so fast. He's already driving but it seemed like he just learned how to walk. Now it occurred to me that he doesn't have the time now because he began a wrestling career after his college graduation just like me.

I've long since retired and my son's moved away.

I called him up just the other day.

I said," I'd like to see you if you don't mind."

He said," I'd love to dad, if I could find the time.

You see my new job's a hassle, and the kid's got the flu,

But it's sure nice talking to you, dad.

It's been sure nice talking to you."

I retired from my career a long time ago. For all the days my son wanted to see me, he can't now because he is the one too busy.

And as I hung up the phone, it occurred to me,

He'd grown up just like me.

My boy was just like me.

He'd grown up just like me.

End.

Hope you liked it! It wasn't that great because it was my first songfic. I hope you liked it, though.
