BPOV

Four pairs of feet pounded against the forest floor as we made our way to the Cullen household. Conversation was nonexistent except for a little banter that was being passed between the red eyed male and female. As soon as we were in close enough proximity to the house I used Edwards borrowed power to alert my family. There would be no surprises here.

EDWARD! I hissed out in my head, I knew he would hear me, I had purposely dropped my shield and reached out to him. I was just hoping he would reply. Him and I were not on the greatest terms after he learned about Sam and I. We actually hadn't spoke at all. But this was different. I got no response. Edward Anthony Mason Cullen! Answer me! I finally screeched.

What Bella? finally came his mock tired response. I didn't answer him right away. Things flooding my mind. Images of the intruders and our conversation, the way they attacked right off the bat. Through Edwards mind I felt his anger peak as well as his frustration. Nothing was ever easy or quiet for long. I'll alert the family Bella, you just be safe. He added earnestly. Lead them to the clearing, but if they happen to catch our scent and barge to the house then that's fine, we are waiting, everyone is alert.

Finally I could breathe, not that I needed to, but at least I had done what was possible to alert my family to a strangers presence. I think they had to have been distracted by William and I because they allowed us to lead them right to the clearing, passing up the trails of scents that lead to our home. We hit the clearing and almost immediately I pounced on the male. Shock colored all of his emotions which I could only feel because Jasper must have been in close proximity. William followed my example and pounced on the female. Emotions swirled, anger, embarrassment, betrayal, shock. I scoffed and pushed him deeper into the ground. My newborn strength allowing me to at least secure him if nothing else.

"Sorry there matey, but a stranger is a stranger, so put those shell shocked emotions of yours away and behave until my family gets here." I hissed into his ear. I felt his anger spike up again and so I pushed him harder into the dirt. "You just don't listen do you, nomad?" I growled.

"You're going to be sorry." He bit out. I didn't sense any deception in his statement, it was clear this guy had some ego problems going on, he wasn't going to be getting the best of me, that was for sure.

I was able to relax a little when the smells of my family, fresh, tickled my nose.

"The Calvary has arrived." I said with my voice sticky and sweet and full of promise. Edward hit the clearing first, of course because he was the fastest. Carlisle and Esme followed right behind him, then Emmett and Rose, and bringing up the rear was Alice and Jasper. I felt another wash of relief but it wasn't coming from me, it had come from the vampire I was currently perched on top of.

"Major Whitlock!" The vampire hissed and I saw Jasper both tense and smile at the same time.

"The time that I am to be called that has ended, my dear friend." Jasper's reply was full of love and reminiscence, no fear and no worry for these two intruding vampires. "Bella?" He called to me now, his tone colored with amusement.

"Yes, Jasper?" I answered slowly.

"Would you care to please remove yourself from my brother?" He asked trying to hide his laugh, but failing.

"Brother?" I said absently. I quickly scrambled up and off of him, muttering a quick sorry as Jasper crashed the vampire in a hug, followed by the new female.

I felt a spike of mischief coming from Jasper as he patted the male vampire on the back. "So Peter, how does it feel to lose to a girl?" Jasper said wriggling his eyebrows. Peters eyes turned back to me, they lingered a little too long and roamed over areas that he needn't be concerned about.

"Well, if Miss Bella here had rode me any further into the ground I'd of had to invited her into mine and Charlottes bed." He murmured, and I couldn't pretend to not feel the lust coming off of him, and surprisingly coming from the female as well. These guys were weird.

I shook my head and excused myself to the house as I scrambled for my room. No danger was present. Just old friends of Jasper's. I mentally kicked myself, but anyone would have done the same if they hadn't known the intruding party. I had a family to protect, and my own hide to watch. As I sat there by myself I let all my inner turmoil surface, and it roamed over and claimed my brain.

Sam. Sam. Sam. Sam. Sam. Sam.

Be still my beating heart, after all the fucked up shit he had done to me, I just couldn't let him go. He'd never been MINE but there had at a time been a promise of it. Of what was supposed to be. A different future, but I was selfish, so selfish. I can see that now. Sam had needed the human Bella, would he need me now that I'm frozen in time? Would he accept the imprint knowing he'd never age in my presence, that his family line would end with him. I could never give him children. I could never wake next to him after a long night of making love. We would never go out to a romantic dinner, or go strolling in the park on a warm sunny day. There were so many things that I couldn't give him, he would be stupid to accept me. A girl so pathetic and tired of being weak she chose to die rather than even try to better herself. A cop out. I took the easy road. Hell, even William had taken the pain from my first change for me. He'd even made that easy. Pathetic. I was pathetic.

I heard it before I smelled it. The ravage growls of my family. The snarling of a wolf. My wolf. I didn't waste anytime jumping down from my window and into the backyard of our family home. There stood my Sam, tall and proud, circle by my family, and the two new guests who had bewildered looks on their faces.

"Sam…" Carlisle spoke softly, always level headed in any situation. "You are aware that this surpasses the treaty lines, why have you come?" I saw Sam's mouth pull up, in wolf form it seemed menacing, but as a human I knew he'd be wearing a smirk.

"Sam." I breathed, his eyes flashed to mine and instantly I was on the ground. Hot breath in my face, and fur brushing my exposed marble skin. It almost tickled. My family converged, but I pushed calm and reassuring waves at them, and they stilled. Whatever Sam had planned, whether good or bad, I deserved.

Resignation colored my eyes, I saw it in the reflection of Sam's huge wolf eyes peering back at me. Sam's fur began to burn and glow a dull misty color until I was looking straight into Sam's human face. Resignation also colored his features and I felt my heart lift just as his lips met mine.

No conversation was necessary.

He'd given over to his wolf.

I'd given over to Sam.

Come what may, he was my wolf.
