Disclaimers: I do not own Batman or James Gordon, and I never will.

A/N: This is a two-parter. Warning: THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE DARK KNIGHT!! I admit this is a simple fic, but I am planning to write a longer story about their relationship. Oh, I will update Perfect!

Summary: Bruce's thoughts about the "death" and return of James Gordon.

It may have been an inappropriate time.

Okay, it was inappropriate.

But I couldn't help myself.

I was smiling.

I wasn't worried that anyone would see.

No one knew I was in the room except for Jim.

Back on the road I was knocked unconscious.

I knew that the Joker would use that to his advantage.

But luckily, Gordon was there to save the night.

I'm glad.

I'm really glad that he survived.

An urge to hug him was there, but I would never do that.

He wouldn't want me to do that.

"Back from the dead?" someone said. It was Mayor Garcia. "How'd you manage it anyway?"

"Nothing fancy. Bulletproof vest. I let 'em think I was dead to protect my family." Jim replied.

I smiled wider in my silence behind the madman that is the Joker.

Jim hid it from everyone – including myself.

Clever.

Hours later Jim unlocks the Joker's cuffs. Before he does that, he glances at me, and quickly returns his attention to the Joker.

I could see his eyes so clearly. Shining sapphire blue was the color of his eyes.

"If we're going to play games, I'm going to need a cup of coffee," Gordon says.

Joker replied, "The good-cop, bad-cop routine?"

Jim's hand is on the handle.

"Not exactly," he answers and then leaves.

I replace my smile with a grimace.

A relief came over me once I realized that truth.

James Gordon wasn't dead.

Jim saved my life.

I always knew I could count on him.

He isn't dead.

Before the light turns on, I realize that he trusts me.

And I trust him.

I wasn't smiling for nothing.

A good man had survived, and dared to believe in me.

Now, the world seems to be right again.

The End

End-note: I do intend to write another story that focuses on the intriguing relationship between Commissioner James Gordon and Batman. But that's for another time. Until then, read Perfect! LOL! Shameless, advertising! Once again, I hope you all enjoyed! Reviews are appreciated and keep me going! Until next time!
