It's All Right

Alice watched him, standing beside Emmett and Rosalie as he ran from them. Screams of rage rose up from his lips and he fell to the ground by a cluster of tress, Alice's cue. She glanced at Emmett for reassurance, but her brother looked down at his feet, leaving her to make the decision. She shook her head and made her way forward, walking slowly to keep from startling the figure lying prone on the ground.

"Jasper," she whispered when she was closer. "Jasper, please." He didn't move except for the angry rise and fall of his shoulders. She reached out and placed a hand on his shoulder, and he whipped around to face her, his eyes dark and his fangs bared.

"Don't!" he snapped, pulling away from her. She shook her head and inched closer, placing a hand lightly on his shoulder and gazing into his eyes.

"Jasper, it's all right," she whispered, but he wasn't listening. He tilted his head yet again, breaking the eye contact and looking over her shoulder. She didn't dare look away from him, but she knew what had caught his attention.

"Edward," he called out, his voice catching. "Edward, I'm sorry!" Alice tried to shush him, moving closer to him and pulling him to her. She held him tightly, though he only sat limply in her embrace.

"Jasper, please," she whispered again, but again he said nothing to her.

"I'm sorry!" he called out once more, and he began to struggle against Alice's grip. He clawed at her body, growling when she did not release him.

"Jasper," a soft voice came from above them and Alice looked up at Edward's pale face, his eyes golden, a stark comparison to Jasper's black ones. "Jasper, it's all right."
