Toph leans her head back against the stone of the boulder she has laid claim to and smiles to herself. The sun is warm on her face and the wind soft against her skin. Clothing ruffles lightly, shifting across her body and the sounds of her companions in the water of the river nearby join in the melody.

The fire Katara started earlier licks the rocks surrounding it with its usual hunger, straining for freedom and the many things it might thrive upon beyond its stony prison, unwilling to give up its endless battle for freedom. The water brushes against the pebbles and stones of the riverbed, its surface streaming along in deceptive gentleness while hidden eddies and currents whirl unpredictably underneath. The air is motionless and still save for the light, lazy breezes that brush across the faces of the cliff nearby, high up near the old unsteady ledges above, sending slivers of gravel skittering down to the ground in tiny, earthy waterfalls.

Toph is an earthbender. But that doesn't mean stone is the only thing she can see.
