No, Not My Daughter!
Esme's feelings on leaving Bella in New Moon
I ran up to our room, dryly sobbing. I could feel my family's eyes staring at me, but I didn't care, not one bit. How could Edward do this to our Bella? He couldn't really believe that he was a danger to her, could he?
Bella was my daughter already. No matter if she was a human, only eighteen, and I almost one hundred. She was just so caring. Carlisle once mentioned that she acted like me, with her loving nature. She loved my whole family – Jasper and Rosalie included. No matter how much we 'put her in danger' she would just come back and hug us, begging us for forgiveness. Who would want to break a heart that tender?
Still sobbing, I started to pack Carlisle's and my clothes. I took out box from under our bed, and opened it roughly. I dashed to our dresser and yanked open a drawer. I grabbed some of his shirts and stuffed them in the box. I was just quiet enough to hear everyone yelling downstairs, the only one sounding remotely calm was Carlisle.
"We have to leave, Alice. Can't you – of all people – see the kind of future we are giving her?" Edward shouted.
"Yes, Edward, I can see her future quite clearly. She loves her life with us!" She shrieked so loudly, that even I had to cover my ears. I kept packing, already done with two drawers.
"Edward," Carlisle stated. Oh please smack some sense into him! "You know as well as the rest of us, that Bella will be crushed. Do you want to cause her that much heartbreak?" No answer. Maybe he's going to change his mind! I silently prayed to whatever God there was to make Edward change his mind.
"Gah! Edward, did you ever think about how this would affect us? Esme is upstairs sobbing - " Ouch, that hurt. " – and you still want to tear our family apart?! Bella's family will be torn, too! You know what her reaction will be, but how will Charlie take it?" Emmett yelled. Oh my, I never even thought about that! What would Charlie do? Bella was his last family member within reach. I quickly raced downstairs, enraged.
"Edward! I will not let you take away my daughter! I don't even know why I'm packing! None of us will agree!" My husband came over and put a hand on my shoulder. It really didn't help.
"Esme, you need to see that - "
"No, Edward, I will not see it. Bella probably won't move on. She looks at you with nothing but love in her brown eyes – and vice versa! Are you willing to throw away her trust, just to try and save her?" He didn't answer, but just stared at the floor.
"We need to go. I'll start packing." With his comment, he ran up the stairs and I could hear him throwing CD's into a box. My knees shook, and I crumpled to the ground. My face was buried in my hands.
"He's not going to listen." My family – Jasper, Alice, Rosalie, Emmett, and Carlisle, at least – gazed at me. And I could hear Carlisle sobbing quietly as he sat next to me, hugging me to his chest. Alice followed, then Jasper, and finally Emmett. Rosalie just walked upstairs, ignoring her suffering family.
No. I couldn't have my daughter, Bella, taken away. Not for this reason.
