This is just a small S/J fic based on what was happening during the episode in which Daniel died

Daniel

"Jack?" Her voice was soft, tentative as she approached him. His hand rested on a leather bound book, its pages yellowed with age. She had been surprised not to find him in the infirmary, torturing himself, blaming himself.

"Jack" she said again, more gently, pressing a hand to his cheek and turning it towards her, surprised to see tears rolling down his face.

"We'll get through this" she told him, claiming a faith she didn't feel.

He leant in to her hand, trying to gain some of her strength.

"Jack, Daniel made me realise something. I have to tell you" she paused waiting to see if he would respond.

"I don't want to leave it in the room anymore. I love you... Wait, that's not right" She paused "Jack, I'm in love with you. I just wanted you to know. You never know when it might be too late to say it"

Jack nodded. "I'm in love with you too. I want to say screw the regs, I'd rather be with you, you know"

"Yea" she replied a little breathlessly, "But what if that dooms the planet?" she asked.

"Yep" they both knew the vicious circle that they were part of.

"So we do nothing?" she asked willing to take her cues from him.

"Oh, maybe not nothing." He told her coyly.

"And what do you suggest?" she replied, stepping towards him a little. He pulled Sam into his arms, holding her tightly, breathing in her smell, memorising her feel. He ran a hand through her hair, and another down her side and over her hip. She leant closer to him, wrapping her own arms tightly around his body. Sam stared into his dark eyes, for once his guard was down and she saw all of the emotions he held for her. For a moment they smiled sadly at each other, wondering if the goa'uld would ever be defeated, whether they would ever get their chance for happiness. She leant up and for a moment pressed her lips to his, she didn't dare take it further than a platonic peck, yet somehow it said more than she ever could.

Reluctantly they pulled away from each other, knowing they may never get another chance. Silently they agreed that they would never stop loving, they were stronger together. Jack pressed her hand tightly in his.

"Let's go check on Daniel" Sam nodded, love was the most important thing, even if it took a tragedy for them to see it.
