Willow helped Riley up, watching Giles with pity. "I am sorry, Riley. Are you okay?"

"I think I will be. What just happened?" He carefully looked at the other man who was still breathing hard but was now rocking back and forth, gaze vacant.

"Magic," Willow replied shortly. "Not to sound rude but you'd better leave." When he was gone, she slowly went closer to Giles. She looked at the book and pendant Giles was holding carefully, tenderly. She recognized the feeling in his eyes, the same agony she had felt after losing Tara, the love of her life.

"I thought you would like to know that Ethan Rayne died in the institute in Nevada."

Riley's words seemed to echo in Giles' head. He had instinctively lashed out before breaking down. This was not what he had wanted. He had wanted to repay Ethan for turning him into a demon. He had not wanted him to… to… He whimpered, not wanting to think about it. He looked at the pendant in his hand, a Janus coin. A tear dropped onto it. "I am sorry, Ethan. I did not mean…" A sob. "I love you." If only Ethan could hear him.
