Molly Weasley sat at her kitchen table, trying to clear the tears out of her eyes to read her children's Mother's Day cards. Bill, Charlie, Percy, George, and Ron were coming by later for brunch. Ginny was at Hogwarts, but she wasn't the only one who was missing. Memories of Fred kept popping into her mind, which was the main explanation for her tears. Everyone thought it would be easier for her, considering she had so many other children left, but in a way, that just made it harder. Every time she would look at her children, or at something around her house, she would remember the time Fred turned Ron's teddy into a spider, or the time Fred and George stole Percy's prefect badge, or the day she first walked into Fred and George's store. She had gotten so angry at Fred so many times, but she would give anything to have him back with her right now.

Lost in her thoughts, she didn't even notice a huge barn owl tapping on the glass window. Startled, she finally stood up, opened the window, and let the owl come inside. After a while, she recognized the owl as Dobby, Harry Potter's new owl that he had gotten after the war had ended. She carefully untied the scroll of parchment from Dobby's claw. The bird immediately flew off to return to its master.

She sat back down at the table, surprised and curious about what this letter contained. She opened the letter, and a vase of yellow roses materialized by magic on top of the parchment. After taking a second to admire them, she removed the letter and began to read.

Dear Mrs. Weasley,

Happy Mother's Day! I know you're not really my mum or anything (which would be pretty awkward, considering I'm dating Ginny), but I just wanted to thank you for being the closest thing to a mother that I've ever had. Since the very first day I met you, eight years ago at King's Cross Station, you never treated me special because I was famous or different. There is no way I can repay you for all the wonderful meals, generosity, and support you've given me over the years. Thank you so much.

Happy Surrogate Mother's Day,

Harry

Her eyes were raining again, harder than ever, but this time, they were tears of happiness and gratitude. She realized that although she had lost a son in the war, she had gained one along the way.
